She has a true talent of teaching in a way that everyone can follow, learn and improve upon! This 100 % translates through her books! This book is a THICK 259 PAGES CRAMMED WITH EASY TO UNDERSTAND AND FOLLOW, instructions and examples, on how to draw and find your own personal style. I have a language processing disorder that makes reading instructions difficult, and I never took art lessons before in my life but I recently got some of Karen's books, including this one, and signed up for some of her classes, and my before and after skills are dramatic! The first picture I am posting here is very embarrassing. This was my drawing skills before I read any of Karens books or took her classes. The second one is after. I have been focusing on profiles which is JUST one of the areas this book covers. They are VERY challenging! My next two photos are profiles I did, following this books instructions and help, while developing my own personal style. I have chosen to leave a review on this awesome book because this is what I wish I could have found years ago! This book is worth EVERY SINGLE PENNY!!! I cannot recommend it enough!

This is one of my best purchases for helping me with portraits and dimension. It is basic and presented in a fun way which is what I needed to build upon. Recommend!

I have three other books by this artist author which are all lovely and so drew me to buy this book. Although I can't say I've 'used' the book properly, I've gone through every single page and have found them all educational and inspirational. The book is for anyone who has a bit of difficulty with their drawing skills, or finds somethings a bit troublesome. It has a step by step guide to (for example) cheek bones, eyes, eyebrows, ears, noses, lips, curves of the chin, hair etc etc, and even some different styles which might be a style of drawing you might prefer, .... you name it, this book covers it. You can copy what she's telling you as many times as you like, until you feel confident to close the book on that subject and have a go at creating what you see in your head rather than copying, stroke for stroke. As the book says on the front cover - you will find your own style! I'm thrilled to pieces to have made the decision to buy this book and would encourage anyone else, just starting or maybe someone who's been drawing for a while but is still getting that annoying result which we all get. This book can help you to achieve what you vision, and move past that pain in the you know where! The book, and so much more from this artist/author, is supported by a huge amount of video's all found on You Tube. I don't think I'm allowed to give a link but if you go there and simply put in the authors name into the search bar (top of the YT website) then you'll find all of her videos. I should add: I'm not being paid for this review, nor am I getting anything free/donated or given. (But if the author of this book wants to erm ...... ~ laughing here). I'm reviewing this book because I honestly believe that it could be a massive help to other artists who reach a 'stalemate' with a facial drawing, - and even those just starting out of their journey. Remember: You don't have to sell drawings/paintings to be called an artist! Dictionary definition of an 'artist': ... "a person who creates paintings or drawings as a profession or hobby. Similar: creator, originator, designer, producer, fine artist, old master,..." etc. You don't have to make a living from your 'hobby' or your drawings or paintings. The Dictionary SAYS SO! If you create it, you're an artist. Remember to call yourself that many times - even if no one is listening. You'll eventually get used to hearing it and it will become natural to you.
