La strega di Boorah
Terza raccolta dello spin off di John Carter.

What Happened?
I've been enjoying Dynamite's take on Edger Rice Burroughs Barsoom mythos. Sadly, this volume left me disappointed. The good news: The art is lovely and the colorists do a decent job. But from the first panel, showing what looks like a spaceship landing in a forest, I lost the feeling that I was reading about ERB's Barsoom. While the art is good, the artist apparently received no direction in, and had no experience with, the Barsoom mythos. What happened to the aircraft of Barsoom? They are sailing ships of the sky, not spaceships. The artwork is competent, but shows no real understanding of the world of Barsoom. So if you are a fan, you might find some of these elements disappointing. Also, while the colorists did an okay job, it seems only cover artist Paul Renaud (who does a splendid job) seems to understand that the red men (or in the case of his illustrations, women) of Mars are, indeed, red. Also, the magic elements of the plot left me feeling like I was reading a fantasy story, rather than s a sci-fi pulp story. Okay if you are new to Barsoom, I guess, but all together these element s just didn't work for me.

The Boora Witch
Dejah Thoris is possessed by an ancient witch who then uses her to try to take over the cities Helium and Zodanga. At first the witch can only take her at night but slowly tries to posses her completely. A nice four chapter tale that gives Dejah Thoris a foe that must be fought non-physically and introduces Kantos Kan into the series. Volume 3 collects issues 11-15 of the monthly series. The last chapter (15) is basically filler as the princess sends herself into exile and saves a swamp village from giant bugs.

Fun to look at, plot a little painful.
These books are just *gorgeous,* and yes, they're mostly about Dejah Thoris and other babes who don't wear a lot of clothes. (In the comic's defense, they wear way more clothes than the Red Martians did in the books!) One thing which is kind of a plus/minus is that the characters are just as obliviously idiotic as the characters in the Burroughs books which inspired these. Yay for authenticity/continuity, boo for oblivious idiots. This book in particular is bad on the oblivious idiot front. Good GOD, you morons. PAY ATTENTION.
