Archimedes Square Stomachion Puzzle

The puzzle arived very promptly!It is made of very carefully cut, brightly colored wooden piecies. I've enjoyed putting the piecies together to form a square. The colors provide a clue to the proper orientation of the pieces. It is fun to reflect that Archimedes may have been enjoyed a similar relaxation over 2000 years ago. My grandchildren have also enjoyed the puzzle and it has provided a way to get them to think about Archimedes and his world.

Pieces are not quite as precisely cut as I would have preferred the polygons of equal area to be painted the same color. Otherwise, it is great. It is nice to have all wood rather than having plastic pieces.

Great puzzle in small form: good cutting and painting of pieces---all fits well. This little Archimedian Stomachian rearrangement puzzle has 14 pieces and 536 reported different ways to put the square together... I was hoping the puzzle would be a little larger, since I am using it for demonstration purposes in a college Geometry course. The colors are vibrant and the wood sturdy... Better to start a younger child with tangrams first... Then introduce this puzzle - which is older by almost 2000 years. Its history is most fascinating and adds to the lure.

Unbelievable that the ancient stomachion has over 17,000 solutions. After grinding away, one tends to feel that there is only one solution. Looking at all the possible solutions, you feel that this puzzle should be child's play. Would that it were true. No, this is no puzzle to sneer at.

The Stomachion puzzle arrived promptly and exceeded my expectations in that fit and finish could not be better! I really like the four-color mapping scheme done with the traditional stomachion pieces--very attractive. Looking forward to other classic puzzles in the future such as Alfred Curry's classic four-piece missing square paradox. Keep 'em coming!

Very challenging puzzle. It took me numerous hours and late nights trying to make the pieces fit correctly into a square without a hammer or a handsaw. If Archimedes is looking down on me from the big sphere and cylinder in the sky he would be infinitesimally happy.

It is nice, but price for the size and quality. But it is a rare product, so I mean I paid for that.
