This is great for making cut out cookies
This is great for making cut out cookies. Choose your thickness and roll them out evenly. Cut them, place on cookie sheet and put in freezer about 10 min before baking for perfect shapes. This rolling pin is a great addition for any dough rolling when you want it even with a desired thickness.

Wood had an odor...
First time trying a rolling pin with rings on it. Just got it and used it first time last night. The wood had a funny SMELL to it. Not pleasant. Took dry paper towel and rubbed the wood and orange color came off on towel. So, washed it with soap and water before using. Smell got a little bit better after that, and, no more orange when I rubbed a paper towel on it. Cookies did not seem to have any taste on them from whatever is giving it the odor... I like that the rings are hard plastic, and not silicone, so there's no "give" to them. And I like that they screw on. I am used to a rolling pin with handles. This is my first try on using a rolling pin with no handles. I used the 1/8th size ring (orange one?). I think it will take some getting used to. Wasn't sure on how to start rolling on the dough - or where! I had my dough in a flattish disk about an inch and a half tall. I rolled out gingerbread cookie dough. It seemed to do a pretty good job rolling most of the cookies the same thickness. Like I said, I think it takes practice to get the hang of it. I might increase my number of rating stars down the road with more practice, but the smell was off-putting at the beginning. (P.S. As another reviewer on here mentioned, the wood is rough. Not a smooth finish like you find on most wooden rolling pins. Not being finished might be the reason for the orange stuff I initially wiped off. It did NOT leave any kind of marks or pattern on my cookies. I figure it might smooth out over time with more use.)**** Follow up to above review - I accidentally had ordered ANOTHER one of these rolling pins. The new one did NOT have that nasty odor to it. I tried rubbing it with a dry paper towel, and, there was a very faint trace of the orange stuff that I had seen on the first one. The first one had A LOT of this orange residue (finish?) that wiped off. The second one, not so much. The second one was also a little bit smoother than the first. It was still rough in a couple of spots, but not all over like the first one. ****

Exactly what I needed
Exactly what I needed. I used to roll out fondant and cookies. The adjustable rolling sizes are great.

Other than the length it seems sturdy enough and easy enough to adjust the thickness guides ...
The usable surface wasn't as long as I really wanted but I'll keep it. Returning it will cost half the price I paid for the item. I'll make it work for me.Other than the length it seems sturdy enough and easy enough to adjust the thickness guides as I will be using it for clay not dough.

Great for cutout cookies.
Have trouble getting cut out cookies to the right thickness? Some aren't cooked while others are brown at the edges? This works great to keep the dough to the right thickness for your cookies.

Very poor quality construction
The plastic screws are warped - not flat on the inside, so the rings go off center as you tighten them. There's way too much slop between the screws and the rings - it needs a proper "shoulder" on the outer end of the thread to hold the rings centered properly. Shame, as it's a nice idea, but poorly manufactured.

Doesn’t last
The concept is great and it worked nicely to roll dough out to an even thickness, however after 18 months of roughly twice monthly use, the wood has split on both side where the pins attach making it unsafe to use. I’ve only handwashed and dried this item, disappointed it didn’t last very long.
