Tip for proper filling level
Very difficult to monitor level when filling. Spilling is also likely to happen when pouring from a container. Solution: Carefully fill with rubbing alcohol to proper level that sticker indicates. Pour (remaining) alcohol into a suitable container. Let the lantern sit for a time to monitor for leaking. If lantern does not leak, pour alcohol back into the ***alcohol bottle. Mark the level for future quantity needed for refueling the lantern. This bottle is now marked for rapidly filling your lantern without trial and error. Go one step more and drill a hole in the alcohol cap. Friction fit a silicone hose. Fill the bottle to the previously marked level. Put the hose into the lantern fill opening, squeeze bottle and siphon entire contents into lantern. No muss no fuss. Elevate bottle 3+” to expedite transfer. OR just use a funnel. BE SAFE AND RESEARCH DANGERS BETWEEN FUEL, CONTAINER AND HOSE. ***Note: Or use a see through flexible bottle and another lantern fuel compatible liquid. Slightly loosen the lid to allow air to enter bottle while siphoning. Silicon hose is usually kept at hobby stores, sold by the foot.

Cute oil lamp, don't over fill it, puts off a lot of heat and light.
Alright, I knew I needed a hurrican oil lamp for the coming winter, however I did not want a full glass one as I have cats. I needed it for emergencies, but also just for decoration. I filled it with oil (hard to tell how much is in there, the only downside) and let it set for about an hour before I attempted to light the wick. The little finger switch to raise and lower the lamp globe for lighting and snuffing is really cool and helps a lot. I used clear paraffin oil, and there's no smell until you snuff it and I think it's just the wick going out. It just depends on what oil you use. The wick definitely stays sizzling for about a minute after. The globe comes out easily when you raise the chimney and lean it out. My only complaint/suggestion is an oil level window. If you over fill it, it will leak. Light wise, it's great. Style wise, it's great. The red color is cute, and it's a good size as well (I got the larger one). It's probably only going to be used inside, but who knows.

Bottom fell out and covered me in fuel!!!!
DANGEROUS!!! THE WHOLE BOTTOM OF THE LAMP HAS LET GO AND OIL HAS RUN ALL OVER MY WALL AND SPLASHED ALL OVER ME!! I purchased this and filled it with oil in November. The window to return was Nov 25th. I put oil in it and put it on a shelf in my dining room for when power would go out as it often does due to weak electrical grid out my way. The other night the power went out. It was only 16°out and a sbuw storm when power went out last week. I reached for the lamp off the shelf and I got COVERED with lamp oil with NO way to get it off due to having a well and no electricity to run the pump!! When I put it on the shelf I put it on a plate so my shelf wouldn't get accidentally scratched. The plate filled with oil and the bottom of the tank just let lose and drenched me! I have left an email with the company but if course no response. DO NOT TRUST THIS PRODUCT NOR THE COMPANY THAT SELIS IT!!! I would give it a negative 20 if I could. DANGEROUS PRODUCT!!

Works but the fitment of everything is really poor.
Basically nothing on this wanted to stay straight / upright. Took some slight bending / manhandling to make it behave. Took a star for that. Also, apparently these do not seal their kerosene very well as I discovered and also read in the reviews. So keep that in mind. Other than that though I got all the cool kid points when I went camping with the extended family so I'm pretty happy. Btw beware smoking out the glass. If the flame gets too high you'll have this issue. It requires some amount of disassembly to clean but it's not impossible to do so.

I live in the boonies.
Bigger than I expected. I am so pleased with this lantern. I live in a semi remote area and the power does go out. Of course, I have several power banks and rechargeable lights, but what about when those go dead? That is why I wanted this lantern. It is sturdy and seems safer than a candle. It is very pretty too!

Education is important when using combustables
For YEARS..decades... these things were about 6 bucks at places like Walmart and hardware stores. That being said and over and done with; about 14-16 bucks is what you'll pay now for this large size. It is not quite as generally sturdy as one you might have had back in the 70s or longer ago...but it is fully functional. Some people in reviews said they couldn't get the paper instructions out. Full stop!!! If you don't know how to get the paper out, you do NOT need to use one without A. someone who DOES know how to use it showing you B.watching a how to video. You are dealing with a potentially dangerous item so knowing how to operate it is extremely important. *There is a small ring type hook on top of the lantern. You pull UP on that with one hand while having your other hand gently on the globe cage so you can push it forward or back to get the paper out. You also need to know how to do that to be able to clean the globe AFTER the lantern is perfectly cool to the touch. Any black soot should be cleaned regularly. Do NOT do it while lantern is hot or even warm. Do NOT lean the lantern over. If none of that makes sense watch a video before doing it. Just because it exists doesn't mean everyone should buy or use one. I highly recommend watching several videos on lanterns before you buy one if you have never owned one. This lantern is perfectly fine quality. The globe could be thicker but that's all that is "wrong" with it quality wise. And if you handle it carefully and respectfully it will probably still be working after you are gone. Not a toy. Not a necessity. It is a helpful tool to use as much as you want or need to use it always making SURE to understand how to use it, maintain it, store it. You don't have to be terrified of these lanterns but you certainly DO need to know the basics. Be safe and enjoy this fine product at a decent price.

Works pretty good for a cheap lamp but leaks like crazy
Works for a cheap lantern but not well. Sealed the oil can with tank liner before first use and still leaks out of the vent tube arms. Do not have oil in it when traveling or storing in your house. I keep mine outside so leaking doesn't bother me but others may find a fire hazard when they come home if oil can is full. Do not recommend for inside use or where ever the lamp may be moving around (In wind or on water).

PRACTICA Y BONITA

A great thing to have when the power goes out
I’ve read a few of the reviews on this product before purchasing and if you have it filled but sitting I’ve noticed it did seep a little bit of oil around the bottom but I never leave it filled. When it’s lit and there’s a bit of heat in the metal it expands and it ceases to leak at all but for some cheap insurance I applied a little clear jb weld to the bottom seam and it hasn’t leaked since. So for I love it
