very interesting read
I grew up on the Lake Erie islands but had never heard of this tragedy. Really interesting read. Great research.

Personal to me!
My Great-Grandmother was killed in this tornado so this tragedy holds a very personal and sad connection to me. My grandma was six years old when this happened and they were literally blown out of their house. I have a very detailed story that I can share if anyone would be interested. The details in the book were very precise and almost too overwhelming for me to read. But, it was important to understand what happened and read the most accurate reports of that awful day. I thank the author for giving the people killed that day the respect and honor they deserve.

You will remember The 1924 Tornado in Lorain & Sandusky next time the sky suddenly darkens on a hot summer afternoon.
Betsy D'Annibale's, The 1924 Tornado in Lorain & Sandusky, is much more than a retrospective of an epic tragic natural disaster, though it is that. D'Annibale explains the meteorology of the twister in a manner comprehensible even to one who is not Weather Channel-addicted. This book takes the reader back to experience the Model-T and Prohibition days of small city life along the south shore of Lake Erie, to a pre-Twitter and pre-smart phone era when "party lines" had nothing to do with politics, when meteorologists predicted deadly storms only scant minutes ahead of their mayhem and death, and when there was neither TV nor online media to efficiently get the word out to protect lives and property, nor the systems and means to evacuate. This book was thoroughly researched and beautifully illustrated with crisp, historical photos of places and people whose courses were irrevocably altered by this historic catastrophe. Regardless of whether the reader is a history buff, or has no connection to Lorain or Sandusky, Ohio, reading The 1924 Tornado in Lorain & Sandusky will leave a lasting impression of the psychotic randomness of this tornado's enormous, unstoppable force.

Short version of what happened
This book barely covered the event as it happened in Erie county which was very disappointing.
