And I paid $9.99 to see this???
Wow, this for sure makes my top 10 list of all time lame movies!! I was trying to figure out if it was the acting that was terrible or the screen writing because I guess an actor can't deliver a good line if there wasn't one in the script! I felt almost embarrassed for this cast who tried to pull it off, especially Rebecca De Mornay, who is a normally a decent actress. Her role was almost ridiculous and she seemed so ill-fit for that role. I think probably the most ridiculous scene was Mischa (terrible in this role, btw) walking out in a tiny towel from a bath to find the creepy building manager who had let himself into her apartment just sitting there. She demands that he leaves, he doesn't and she says "I need some water". Right, a creepy could-be rapist in your place while you're in 1 yard of material and you need a glass of water?? That scene was almost painful to watch. But worse than the acting was the plot, which was flat and anticlimactic. I kept waiting for all of the mysteries to unfold and when the movie was over I was like "Wait, is there more, this can't possibly be the ending can it??" SO stupid! And finally, in terms of horror flicks, or whatever this movie was trying to be, there are only so many scenes of a creepy girl standing in the corner or a creepy girl in the mirror. They did that scene to death in this movie. I mean normally even in a great movie that scene does not evoke any fear, it's just a person standing in the corner, big deal, but in this movie it was like "Oh look there is the ghost in the corner, and now look there she is standing there trying to look evil, and look now she's sitting on the railing oh and look, there she is in the mirror and then oh look, there she is in the corner again." The point of a ghost, in my opinion, if to know of its presence, not have it visible in every scene.Bottom line, don't waste even a dime to watch this movie and if you can get it for free then just don't waste your time.

Very Pleasantly Surprised!
The three lead female characters delivered outstanding performances. The plot was intense and kept my attention, without losing me to over the top outlandish scenes (which seems to have happen with every other movie I watch within this genre)

Don't rent the apartment or this movie.
This is the latest offering of another remake of Japanese horror films, a genre that was short-lived because of its repetitive scenarios (young women haunted, pursued and assaulted by malefic entities) that led audiences to anticipate and predict the stories. This movie, released in 3D (why?) is a bad remake of the Japanese film by the same title, directed by Ataru Oikawa from a script by himself, Takamasa Sato and Kei Oishi, which was adapted from the latter's novel "Ju-On". The Japanese version, far superior to this rendition, is itself heavily influenced by (if not plagiarized from) "Dark Waters", "The Ring" and "The Grudge"."Apartment 1303 3D" is directed and produced by Michael Taverna, who also wrote the script, that has such memorable lines as ""Ugh, this apartment's freaking me out!" and "Apartments don't kill people. People kill people."The story happens in modern day Detroit, where a naive young woman (Janet) rents an affordable apartment with a dazzling panoramic view, in an old building. Janet (Julianne Michelle) is trying to assert her independence from her domineering, abusive alcoholic mother (Rebecca DeMornay) and moves out of the family home, which she also shared with older sister Lara (Misha Barton).Weird people inhabit the building and the apartment is haunted by an angry ghost that eventually murders Janet, faking a suicide. Lara and her married cop boyfriend Mark (Cory Sevier), investigate the circumstances of Janet's death. No spoilers here. The story is hackneyed, lacks escalating suspense and is packed with inconsistencies; many questions are left unanswered, leading the viewer not to care about any of the two-dimensional characters populating this fog. The direction is inept, the staging unimaginative and the acting is mostly clumsy. The special effects are incomplete and the few chills rely mainly on ambiguous frenzied violence and sound blasts. The ill conceived nod to Hitchcock's `Psycho' of a malevolent mother entity and a grisly shower scene; along with the strange inhabitants, ghostly apparitions, summoning voices, creepy noises and an ominous soundtrack cannot save this vapid, dull, droning concoction of clichés. It would have fared better with a funnier dialogue, as a parody or clever spoof, lampooning bad horror movies.Fans of real-estate thriller/chillers should look-up "The Shining", "The Tenant", "The Fourth Floor", "1408" or "The Conjuring" and give this turkey a wide berth.

It is okay
I read the reviews after I watched this movie. I am NOT familiar with the works of Mischa Burton only what I read about her on gossip site. She is not FAT, but very thin in this flam.I have to admit that Rebecca De Mornay is wonderful. She made just a few appearances in the flick and her performance was spot on and her voice is amazing. I did not know she could sing. I wanted to see more of her, but this is obviously a vehicle for Mischa. Apartment 1303 is a Japanese venue and NATURALLY the American adaptation is extremely poor. Just like American adaptation of the ‘The Ring’ and ‘The Grudge.’ Why can’t English adaptations get is right? I have not seen the Japanese version. The absolute worst image in the film is Julianne Michelle blown up lips! OMG! Her face is a horror movie in itself. Sorry to be so elementary. It is truly a tossup who gave the worse performance she or Mischa Burton? In all fairness Mischa has not had a lot of theatrical releases Viewers are left empty. There was no storyline about original mother and daughter’s relationship that went so horrible wrong, told in flash backs. There is no hint that the girl, Emily and the rape-y building manager are ghosts and why either was there in movie and neither factored in to the original story of the murder suicide of the mother and daughterIt is not the worst film ever it is just not well done

3d makes or breaks this movie
3d makes the difference on this one. the movie was shot in 3d and because of that it gives plenty of depth and such. In fact because it was shot in 3d it looks a lot better than 'jumper 3d' or 'spiderman 3d" because post processing will never compete with a real 3d experience. The movie was in limited run in 2013 and it never played in Colorado where I lived. It features Rebecca demorney as a drunken musician who has basically ruined her daughters lives. They one by one flee her to live in the evil apartment. This is a low budget flick for sure. WIth a small amount of special effects but the scene with a falling woman in 3d looks awesome!. The film was also shot in hd and that makes it look even better. The story involves a haunted apartment and evil ghosts. This isn't a A movie by any means , but it's a simple movie shot on location in Detroit. one of the western worlds most dangerous cities , But ironically the apartment is in the good part of the city!. which is near the great lakes and next to Canada. parts of Detroit are ruins with over a hundred square miles of dangerous wasteland , but the downtown area is still pretty and modern, this is much like Johanesburg in south Africa in some ways. The acting is fine and not terrible or great either, and I don't buy people who slag actors who are doing a decent job in a low budget flick. The film in 3d is well worth watching , but in 2d , it's just a average straight to video low budget deal. But certainly I have seen much worse than this one. 3d makes this one. And to watch this on 3d in the u.s you need a all region 3d blu ray player. You can get one on amazon.com. I have a orei , which plays all dvd's , blu rays and 3d blu rays from anywhere in the world. In Europe you can just use your regular 3d blu ray player. So , if you buy this in 2d it will be half the movie I saw in 3d

Scary as Hell
Scary and edge of the seat thrills, A family are torn apart when they are celebrating with friends in the apartment Janet has just moved into when she commits suicide from jumping off the balcony, her mother goes insane with grief and her sister wants to know why and how this could happen. So Lara starts investigating on her own and finds out the previous tenants also had a tragic accidents, so something is evil about this apartment and Lara wants to know more. I rated this an A grade for the chilling effect this show has when watching the suspense feeling that you are there and full on acting by the cast. Get the blanket hide the face type of show, don't forget the munchies while getting settled for a fabulous night in with marvellous entertainment. Enjoy!

and as a piece of "film making" its quite possible one of the worst I've ever seen
LOL, well, it was a punt in the first place, just fancied something different in 3D... but OMG what a complete load of old w**k. Not even the 3D is 3D... and as a piece of "film making" its quite possible one of the worst I've ever seen. We actually turned it off after a while, as it wasn't even funny-rubbish... it was just rubbish...If you need something to put under that wobbly table... get this... if not, stare at the wall for 2-hours as its more enjoyable.

If Rebecca De Mornay hadn't of been in it... I wouldn't have bothered
Not too bad, I really like Rebecca De Mornay so it's a thumbs up from me although i was slightly annoyed that Rebecca's part wasn't a bit bigger.
