40 inches. They are short. Waist high. They are cheap. Bottom spikes break easily. Take extra extra caution when putting them in the ground. I suggest only soft areas. Mulch. Anything else they break.

Q: Can these be installed on existing gaslight poles?

In short, not without fabricating an adapter. I used an 18" piece of treated 4"x 4" wooden post. I then drilled a 3" round hole (about 6" deep) in the bottom end, removed the wood from the inside of the round hole and drove the square post down on the top of the round pole. Then installed the light on top of the square post. It worked but was a lot of work. I hope I was able to help you decide if this will work for you.
