What is the origin of the gelatin?

My package that arrived today explicitly states PORK gelatin and artificial color (ammonia caramel)

How do these compair to the Double Salt licorice? More or less salty?

Definitely less salty than double salt.

The first had a lot of ammonia taste. Since then I don't taste ammonia. Does a person need to open the bag and let it air out before eating it?

It's definitely the ammonium. Years ago I bought Danish hard licorice, in a can, in a duty free store in Frankfurt Airport. They were too ammoniacal for my my taste. But Dutch salmiak rondos, which I've bought in bulk candy stores in Germany -- they are little balls with a someone crisp salty exterior and soft, sweet interior -- are more to my taste.

obviously you have to like salty licorice, this is not a mild "American licorice", but an European salty licorice, and it is absolutely delicious! 130-135 pieces in a 1 lb bag.
