Connect 4 - Live, Love, Learn.
Aside from the fact that Connect 4 has always been one of my favorite "board" games ever, this travel version makes for the perfect journey companion! I bought this for my nieces (3 and 5 at the time) as we were leaving for a family trip w/30+ hours of roundtrip flight time and figured I should load up on anything to help keep their attention that doesn't rely on battery power. This little treasure helped the cause throughout the trip! Plus it gave me the opportunity to remind my nieces again and again that I am their intellectual superior, so really, it was a double-win.Short of finding some workaround to having any loose pieces, this really does quite well for on-the-go play. The capped holders on either end are great for keeping the discs in place when not in use and they make it easy to pull pieces out individually without fear of the stacks tumbling out anytime you grab one. The ridged collection plate below the rack keeps pieces that slide through from slipping out the sides and it folds up well. The fold-up minimizes the total profile of the game when done using and allows for easy storage. This game is great in that it does not rely on luck/chance but instead challenges my nieces to think in real-time, planning multiple moves ahead and anticipating their opponents' strategies. It's amazing to see how the girls learn through each successive game. And, when all else fails, can always just throw the chips at each other because sometimes you just get tired of thinking!

Good size for travel, reasonably well made
We took this on a recent trip and it's a pretty good size for travel and packs easily in a carry on bag. each side of the slots (where you drop your chip when playing) has a tube with a snap closed lid that the chips can be stored in w/o falling out. At the bottom of each tube is a slot that you can remove a chip from one by one when playing. At the bottom of the whole thing is a trough (?) not sure what else to call it, that can also hold the chips when playing without them falling off a table or something like that. The square part is about the size of a piece of sandwich bread, to give you an idea.

Flimsy
I have an older, similar travel Connect4 that apparently isn't made anymore. This version is of much lower quality. All the plastic is flimsy. The fold up bottom pieces are prone to break off, and don't fold up into the nice compact shape that the previous version did. Another negative is that the pieces need their own separate bag. Sure, it's just a silly little game, but this is such garbage in comparison that I had to point it out.

Slipped disc
I am a little disappointed with this item. I chose this version over others offered because of the high product rating and self-contained unit design. After playing the first time we re-loaded the discs into side cylinders, closed the cylinder lids, and folded up the trays as instructed. As soon as we folded up the trays the discs began falling out of the bottom of the cylinders. We still enjoy playing this game and like the compact size but we found a small change purse to use for storing the discs.

best game we've purchased yet
we are using this as our normal connect 4, although it will be great for travel too. this is one of our favorite games, and i love the small size of it. can't believe it was under 10 bucks. it's small, but it has held up well to my 3 rough kids. very good product

Works great. Great travel version.
The little disc live in the sides of the game. It clicks shut so they don't get lost. We've taken this camping and traveling with great success. Its about 9 inches long by 7 inches tall. Smaller that I was expecting but this was a bonus for us.

Redesign of a classic. Not an improvement.
A friend of mine always carries a connect-four board in her bag. She uses it to break the ice when she is talking to someone new. I thought that was a great idea, so I bought this to keep in by backpack. My friend had the classic travel-connect four. You've probably seen it classic one, which consists of a trapezoidal base, and a playing board that slides, rotates, and then fixes in place. It's sturdy, the pieces stay in, and it folds up cleanly without pieces sticking out. This is a redesign and, sadly, it is not an improvement. It's actually worse in every way. The circular reservoir at the bottom folds up in two halves. This leaves them sticking out. In a backpack, they would catch on things and possibly break. I thought this was stupid, so I removed them. The playing board can stand on it's own. What really makes me nervous is the way the pieces are stored. They stay in two cylinders on either side. The top is closed by a hinged cap, and the bottom has a slit to easily remove the pieces. In other words, both sides are potential leaks in a bag. The top could catch on something and open, and the pieces could just slide right out of the bottom. This is such a poor design choice, that I can't even understand what the designers were thinking. I keep it in a zipper bag inside my backpack because it can't hold up on it's own.3 stars because it's a classic game, and the construction is very sturdy.
