Bock's Best - Volume 1: Piano Solo

This one was recommended to me by our Church Pianist who's a master when it comes to music. It's a shame that this one does not come spiral bound so it's easier to turn the pages without them flopping back. Otherwise, it's everything I expected. The skill level is intermediate, yet it almost sounds like advanced. Nice, beautiful arrangements!

This book has a great selection of older hymns Great for sight reading but requires a little polish. Love it

I purchased this book several decades ago (when it was spiral-bound), and it has paid for itself many times over. I'm a professional church musician, so I've used both Volumes 1 and 2, plus other Bock books, at many churches and many denominations. The pieces are arranged in about 3- to 4-minute lengths, so they're great for prelude, offertory, special music (solo), communion, background music for prayers, etc. They're as good on a grand piano as they are on a digital synthesizer. What do listeners think? Well, I often catch them humming along until the final tagline of the piece where they get lost. Compliments always follow, when the service is over. If you wonder what level most arrangements they are, I'd suggest a Grade 2-1/2 to 3-1/2, or Intermediate.
