Bought this last year and have used it many times. For the money this is a great setup.Mine came with a protective oil on it, as some others here have said. An SOS/Brillo pad and about 20 minutes of scrubbing took care of that completely. As far as cleaning the inside of the canteen, I filled it almost full with hot water, a spoonful of baking soda and 2 spoonfuls of vinegar. Shook it for a minute and let it set overnight.It is a little small but it works great. The cup fastens to the top of the pot wth the handle and is really secure. You can use it as a double boiler, too.Covers are available elsewhere and will cost you almost as much as this set. They aren't rare but they sure aren't too common, either. IMO, the covers are worth it if you are a connoisseur of Soviet surplus. Otherwise, the cover is just an added expense.If you have never used aluminum to cook with, one thing to keep in mind is that anything you cook that contains tomato sauce will have a very weird taste to it as aluminum reacts negatively to tomato sauce. Tried it with some canned ravioli once and it tasted very weird. Not repulsive but definitely different.Again, for the money you get a great little setup that works. Use it over a fire or with one of the many gas/alcohol/wood camp stoves available. Toss in a cutlery set and you will be in really great shape.

This is a pretty nice addition to your gear supplies or collection. soviet surplus is very strong and rugged, this is made out of aluminum but heavy gauge and can stand up to the beatings of war and your average camping trip. yes this is covered with cosmo but that was for protective storage to keep your old kit looking as new. everythings awesome except theirs no covers for sale anywhere and it didn't come with one, not so bad really cause i used a saw ammo pouch that fits it nice. I bought this because you could cook stew or soup on a campfire by hanging it on the handle, but it fits with my soviet and Russia goods so its sweet.

Great piece of kit for the price. No pouch but you can find them on eBay for 10-15 bucks, the kit itself is very well designed. Parts fit together well and don't get stuck, the pan/cup is comfortable and versatile, the pot is great to have and the pan can act as a lid for boiling things, canteen holds right under a liter of water but the threading isnt the best, chain can also be finicky. The biggest part: it comes coated in some sort of preservative grease, give this thing a generous scrubbing with brillo or steel wool. It stays stained cosmetically afterwards but that's just part of buying surplus.

This is a super heavy-duty aluminum mess kit. It's DENSE and very strong, and it almost feels like steel (but it's not). It arrived brand new and exactly as described. It's covered in a thick grease, so it needs some cleaning before use. Automotive de-greaser works well. This surplus kit is far superior to replicas and modern camping mess kits, and I expect to get many years of hard use out of it.

Made of aluminum, surprised how heavy and thick the aluminum was, cook kit and canteen all in one. You can access the canteen without taking anything apart and all aluminium (Unlike the Yugoslavian version). Am confident this will last several lifetimes. The case was a little thinner canvas than I like with a unique belt flap design. Recommend

If you are looking for this mess kit with cover, buy from another seller. The item came with well covered plastic wrapping but when you opened it, you will realize the whole item is covered with machine oil. I am not sure if I can capture that on my picture but the whole body is sticky and smells pretty bad. After intense cleaning and burning surface, the final product is pretty good.

First one came with a pouch, second one did not ($29 on eBay).

Love this mess kit cook clean shave and staying hydrated. Best really thought out design. Works wonders in the snow and nothing like a nice cup of coffé or tea after a long hike.

Great quality, even came covered in Cosmoline for that essential surplus Soviet gear experiencegreat capacity, about 0.95 quarts so basically the same size as any of the plastic American Canteens plus you can cook with itjust be sure to wash it well, if your water still smells like crayons then keep washing that grease out10/10 Product for my VDV Impression kit as well as for hiking

Item not very well packed ,dent in the canteen cap ,also missing canteen cover / pouch as on website ,item returned to amazon ,amazon are usually very good , Have had many transactions with them ,but on this item very poor .

ネットで色んな方がレビューされている通り、実物はなかなか良いもので所有欲？もバッチリ満たしてくれる逸品です。本体は厚手のアルミ製ですが、水筒のフタは薄いアルミ製で煮沸消毒時にチェーンついたまま外していたら、ドロドロに溶けてしまいました｡何かフタの代用品ないでしょうか？

まず期待通りの機械油対策　シンナー、クエン酸、洗剤で何度も重ねて洗浄。その後キャンティーンが入らないハメに…。ペーパーがけ2日各日4時間計8時間…動画にある通りフルコースやらせてもらいました。そういえば小カップにケガケがなかったのでカチンとハンガーが止まりません。そうなこともどうでもいいようになってました。出来が悪い子のほうが後で可愛くなるのです。手塩にかけた現在は枕元において寝てます。
