Is this drill flute long enough to create a sufficient pilot holes?** A: Hmmm.... well, I would think if you anchored the shaft with the full 2 3/4 inch cutting screw exposed and sink it into the stud down to the chuck you might have a good pilot hole. The only thing that bothers me is that you said these are BOLTS not screws... so I don't know how much bite they will have to go that last 1/4 inch. so you may have to leave a bit of the shaft exposed to get the full 3" you will need.
