Product Description A fresh, acoustic-based collection of award winning songs, from humorous to poignant. Songs about finding the perfect man, dating for the food, the Guinness book of records, addiction, and even a song about nothing. Plus some pretty hot guitar pickin'. Listen close and laugh, think, ponder or just put it on in the background and get in a good mood. Review "Carla Ulbrich's gift for turning a phrase is second to none." -- Southeast Performer Mag"Carla is cute as a button, hysterically funny and a phenomenal guitarist, possessing an original and lyrically creative folk repertoire." -- South Florida Folk News"fresh tongue-in-cheek delivery that Garrison Keillor should know about... a refreshing change from the norm. " -- Recording Magazine P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); About the Artist A fan favorite on the long-running, nationally syndicated Dr. Demento show, award-winning songwriter and general smarty-pants Carla Ulbrich has been compared to the likes of Ray Stevens, Christine Lavin, Jerry Seinfeld, Chet Atkins and Jewel. The guy who said Jewel had been drinking heavily. A Clemson, SC native, Carla brings a mix of humor, poignancy and nifty guitar playing to the stage. She began playing guitar at the age of nine, and writing songs in high school. Carla made her singing debut at a pig pickin' on Spring Break in college and released 2 EPs before completing Her Fabulous Debut (CD) on her own label: A Major Record Label. Carla's live shows and CD, Her Fabulous Debut, have earned her rave reviews and cool awards: Best Upbeat and Best Overall, 1999 South Florida Folk Fest's Song Competition; 1st place, 2000 and 1998 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest; 2nd place, 1998 Chris Austin Songwriting Contest; 2nd place: Gamble Rogers Folk Fest's Fingerpicking contest; #4 most requested on Dr Demento; grants from the SC Arts Commission and Jim Beam to help fund recordings, and endorsements from Takamine and John Pearse Strings. Carla has taught guitar at several colleges and the National Guitar Workshop. She tours relentlessly all over the country, has appeared on numerous radio stations as well as USA's "Up All Night," and has shared the bill with such luminaries as Cheryl Wheeler and Twiggy the Water Skiing Squirrel. Carla Ulbrich is a member of ASCAP and President of the Difficult Last Name Club, likes cheese, and collects bottlecaps. See more

Subtle, smart, sassy and smiley - aliterally...
I met Carla at a folk music convention in November 2009, saw her perform and I was hooked. 'Her Fabulous Debut' IS all that; well produced, great arrangements and lots of smiles. Unlike many comedic songsters Carla's music stands up to the best of the "serious" players and lyricists. Great guitar chops? Check. Witty lyrics? Check. Waiter- check. Oops, I'll leave the smart aleck remarks to the professional, one Carla Ulbrich - and you should too. A new fave in my collection. Enjoy.

Funny with words and music
This CD is a fabulous debut and is FUNNY! If you like twisted words and a twisted mind I think you will be glad to meet Carla. She is like a female Loudon Wainwright III; but from a female angle. Start off with this CD and continue with her other songs and YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU DID...That smile will say it all!

Simply FABULOUS!
I >have< had the privilege of seeing Carla live, and the CDs will just have to serve as substitutes for those of you less fortunate! This one is well worth the money, and if you can find the second one, it is the next best thing to being there. Carla recently had to endure some very unpleasent circumstances, and she is one of the few people I know who could write a hilarious song about the most devastating experience. It's not on a CD (yet) but just an example of the talent this lady possesses. There's more here than meets the ear, as well. A number of the songs have an uncanny way of looking at the world that gets you thinking. Buy the CD and become another devoted follower!!!

Fresh! Fascinating! Witty! Original!
I rarely get so excited about a new performer that I have to rush out to buy their album. But, in this case, after hearing Carla Ulbrich one evening on NPR, I not only bought a copy for me, but purchased two more to send to relatives. When I tell my friends about Carla Ulbrich's 'Fabulous Debut' album, the first thing that they ask me is, "What style is it?" The best that I can say is, "It's HER style!" Somehow, she bridges the gap from jazz to folk to acoustic rock to 'almost country' so smoothly, that one becomes convinced that mixing styles this easily is 'no big deal'. Beyond that, her songs are so thoughtful, personal and clever that, by the end of the album, you feel like you've been in a confession booth with a stand-up comic-savant who has just become a new friend. Buy this album, you won't be disappointed!

She'd rather get paid..
and she should be.Carla is the freshest breeze to sweep through the music industry in many many years..I wandered into a coffee house one night to see a tiny blonde gurl beating hell out of 'Zippeddy-Doo-Dah' and doing it so well and tight, and flash that she captured my heart. She's a cutie, but there is brain under that wit, heart in there somewhere, soul behind those eyes..enjoy.

Delightful & Hysterical
Worth the price just for the cover art and the first song. But I like all tracks. Stumbled across this in Pandora, and purchased immediately

Simply Awsome!
Carla is the most hilarious folk singer since Steve Goodman. BEWARE, this CD is "ticklish! YES she is a favorite on the long lasting Dr. Demento Show. She is to "folk" music what salt and pepper are to eggs! She has another live CD that is even more hilarous! I can't wait to see her in person. Keep em coming Carla!

A female Jim Croce
If you like the humor of storytellers like Jim Croce with the strong sultry voice of a Wynona Judd, Carla Ulbrech is someone you just have to hear. I strongly recommend this CD to you.
