Works great. Easy installation and a BRIGHT light!
I have 3 Maglite D cell flashlights from the late 1990s/early 2000s - 6D, 4D and 2D. We were cleaning out the barn attic and I found my old Maglites. These were state of the art in the day - solid aluminum, bright (pre-LED) and a good self-defense tool if needed. I was about to throw them out. They were collecting dust not being used because I have the newer/more powerful and brighter LED flashlights. It gets dark here out on the farm and a bright flashlight beam is a necessity at night. I saw by chance a YouTube video on upgrading these Maglites so I went on Amazon to see what was available. These LiteXpress LED upgrade replacement bulbs are not cheap, but they work great, are easy to install and provide a nice BRIGHT light. These LED replacement are competitive with my current single LED flashlights. Brought back to use from the 1990s with LED technology into the 2020s. The 6D and 4D Maglites require this 530 lumen replacement. The 2D Maglite needs a different part - use the 435 lumen. Voltage does matter. Simply unscrew the cap and take out the lens of the flashlight. It all unscrews with the cap, lens and an O-ring. Take out the reflector funnel. Unscrew the old incandescent bulb housing, then screw in the new LED housing. Replace the reflector funnel, lens, O-ring and cap and it's done. I replaced the old scratched lenses with new Welltool lenses in the process. Done. Great way to refurbish AND re-use these old classic but extremely well built Maglites. A great flashlight and club/tool as needed with the LEDs. The 6D will be used by the night stand. 4D will now be in my farm truck. The 2D is back where it belongs in the front closet. Highly recommended to repurpose your old Maglite flashlights. Just make sure you use the right LED replacement part based on the number of D sized batteries the old Maglite uses.

I was pleasantly surprised
The original bulb on my 4 D Maglite emitted a sort of dull orange beam. Not very bright at all. After replacing it with the 530 LED, I couldn't believe the improvement. Very bright, white beam with a large hot spot and some side spill. I have a couple of 3 D Maglites that I upgraded to LED 15 years ago. They are okay, But the LED technology has come a long way since then. This one runs circles around them. Sure, the extra D battery makes a difference in brightness, but the beam pattern on the 530 LED is so much better. Installation was easy. Twist the head off, unscrew the old bulb, and screw in the new bulb, put the head back on and done. Perfect fit.

Mighty brighty night light MagLite
Since the advent of COB LED's, my MagLites have been obsolete and put out of service. The bulb is pricey, about the cost of my old model 3-battery MagLite, but I weighed the cost of the bulb against the loss of the MagLite and decided that the value of the MagLite with an extreme bulb was worth the cost. (Note: you CAN'T use this bulb with a two batterry old model MagLite - Amazon does sell another bulb for that.) The bulb was very easy to install and the results exceeded my expectations. It is bright and you don't want to look directly into to it to find out how much. To get the most out of this bulb, you must focus the MagLite so that it concentrates the beam without leaving a darker spot in the center. While the MagLite focus feature was innovative and useful, it is unnecessary with this bulb. The light spread outside the "hot spot" is more than bright enough to illuminate a much larger surrounding area. I have not used the MagLite for enough hours to comment on how long the batteries will last with this bulb. Regardless, if you want bright light, Buy the bulb. Edit

Easy Upgrade to BiPin Xenon MagLite
This product took 2 minutes to install into my 3D MagLite with the Xenon bi pin bulb and Xenon module aka MagNum Star II. Light is even brighter now and should further extend battery life. The trickiest part has nothing to do with this LED module. The tricky part is getting the Xenon module out from the MagLite to insert this LED upgrade. Find a YouTube video. Hint: after unscrewing the top of the MagLite—the entire head where the bulb and glass are—look into the MagLite body tube & gently pull out the tiny bi pin Xenon bulb. Then look to the side of the Xenon module that’s inserted into the bulb tower within the MagLite body tube itself. There’s a small round brass post (almost looks like a round bolt head). Use a screwdriver or strong flat metal tool to push that post all the way down (I used an old fashioned handheld bottle/can opener). When that round brass post is all the way down, it slides slightly to the side & releases the spring mounted Xenon bulb module. Lift out the Xenon module & you’re ready to insert your new LED module and secure it with its screw on retainer. It comes with its own retainer or use your original one if you have it. Enjoy!

WORKS GREAT ON 5 D-CELL MAGLITE FLASHLIGHT
Product arrived today on time. Was easy peasy to install and brought our ancient (but extremely well made) 5 D-Cell Maglite flashlight into usability once again in the modern era. Like other reviewers here, just could not part with that incredibly well made Maglite so this new LED bulb upgrade seemed the only option. It is indeed MUCH BRIGHTER than the old Xenon bulb days. Some other reviewers here said they found the replacement LED a “tight fit” in their old Maggie and one reviewer said it would not fit at all in his 5 D-Cell Maglite. However the LED bulb I received was a perfect fit for our flashlight (or “torch” as they say in jolly old England and elsewhere). Now, truth be told for $23 and change PLUS tax you can probably buy a fairly decent off the shelf LED flashlight that will be as bright or BRIGHTER than this newly LED retrofitted old Maglite. But then that new SMALL hand held LED flashlight would have nowhere near the cache of this BIG, HAND FILLING AND LONG aircraft grade aluminum almost-indestructible Maglite that – when push comes to shove and poop hits the fan – can do double duty as an effective hand-held ( and heavy) defensive club-type weapon that you can use to fight your way out of a bad situation. So Billy Bob gives it 9 thumbs up and says buy two. One fer you and one fer yer sister Sue. Over and out scout.

Remarkable Maglite renewal
I recently rediscovered my “collection “ of Maglites that had been relegated to the irrelevancy drawer. What once was “the light to reach out and touch the night” had been retired in favor of more effective and efficient tools for illumination. I always wanted to convert these lights to LED but the cost was too great and the results were sketchy. Until now…Took a chance and bought this lamp for my 3-D cell maglite with the two-pin xenon lamp. Installed simply and easily. Fit perfectly and the difference in light output is amazing. It’s still not the 1000 lumen powerhouse like some but there’s no comparison to the original incandescent bulbs. This thing will light the backyard and treetops! Extremely pleased at finding a conversion that makes my forlorn Maglite useful again! This particular product is rather pricey compared to others and i don’t have a comparison of the cheaper versions as of yet. Have some on order then we’ll see. Can’t speak to ruggedness and longevity yet but seems to possess both qualities. But for the price, I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase again…

Works great in a 3 D-cell MagLite
I have a 3 D-cell MagLite. This LiteXpress LXB530 is a direct drop-in replacement for the krypton bulb that came with my MagLite. The LXB530 is extremely bright compared to the krypton bulb that came with the MagLite. And I really like my MagLite because it is a simple operation -- push the bottom for ON an then push the button for OFF. Simple. I'm not a fan of the latest MagLite versions with multiple button presses for different functions. So here is the funny story: first I put the LXB530 into my 3 D-cell MagLite but it didn't work. I rechecked it with the krypton bulb and it was fine. Put the LXB530 back in and it still didn't work. So I got my 4 D-cell MagLite and installed the LXB530 and everything worked fine. So I decided to replace the D-cells with my rechargeable D-cells (Amazon B01ASF5JVG ; Tenergy Centura) to see if the reduced voltage from the NiMH rechargables was enough to power the LXB530 bulb. I removed one, two, three Duracells. Hum... where is the 4th battery? I looked inside my MagLite but there wasn't a 4th battery in there. Ha! MagLites are longer than regular flashlights and what I though was a 4-cell was actually a 3-cell. Then I opened up my previous flashlight and sure enough there were only 2 batteries. Ha! So I did indeed confirm that the LXB530 does not work with 2-cell MagLites. But 3 of my 1.2V Tenergy Centura NiMH are indeed enough to power the LXB530 in my 3-cell MagLite.

Six stars!
Six stars! If I could, I would give it six stars. I had an old 3 D Maglite with and incandescent bulb... Wow! Simply wow! the improvement in illumination is enormous. It's like having a brand new 500 lumen LED flashlight. Super recommended upgrade. As a plus, installation was super easy. Took a minute to do it. Other users have pointed out that you can't change the focus of the beam, but that is not true. Maybe you don't have the range of the original bulb but for me it is enough with what you can do.
