I bought these to have on hand at home (retired RN) because it has been very difficult to find health care providers in my local community to take a culture of my leg wounds. Two providers who did take cultures, contaminated the culture by touching the leg skin on different sites, AFTER they swabbed the wound already. As a result, they also contaminated my leg skin that was intact. That bacteria, now on that intact leg, caused additional ulcerations. So, I found a provider to work with so I can bring my supplies to their office & get the specimen properly & under aseptic/sterile technique. Very easy to use- just swab the wound once with the long "Q-Tip" type device. Then insert the Q-Tip back into the culturette tube & transport to lab,after you put your name & date on it. Then put in appropriate ziplock type universal precaution specimen bag with the lab requisition. No need to pinch or squeeze the "medium" tip at bottom of culturette anymore. I called the manufacturer to be sure. Thanks Amazon for selling these & all necessary medical equipment for proper in home use. It's much appreciated.
