Great guide to a wonderful place
Used this for a week of hiking in Acadia and it was a great resource. The way detailed descriptions combined with how it is organized makes planning hikes very easy. All information in the hikes we did was very accurate. Turn by turn directions were all excellent, especially the fact that they point out some of the areas where the trail markings are confusing. GPS coords for the trailheads is a great plus as some of the trailheads could otherwise be a bit hard to find. More information on elevation changes would be appreciated. I paired this book with All Trails App and think these are a great combination.

Indispensable
This book is FANTASTIC. Just spent 2 weeks in Acadia and this book was indispensable. Here's why: * Hikes for all levels, beginner to expert. * Excellent directions to trail heads. * Summary at beginning and end of each hike description. Another book I purchased did not include a summary so I had to take the time to write out trail directions. * Trail hike times were pretty accurate. * The author has excellent knowledge of the park from history to plant life to wildlife to which trails are crowded vs. those that are not. * Maps of trails included on the trail description page. * It was easy to turn some hikes into loop trails on the fly. There are so many trail options in this book I couldn't even hike them all in 2 weeks. I also did not find this book too heavy or too bulky to take along on hikes, it fit in my Camelbak no problem. I hope this author comes out with a book for biking in Acadia. I'm sure it would be better than all the other options out there.

This was a very useful guide for a relaxed hiking weekend in Acadia
This was a very useful guide for a relaxed hiking weekend in Acadia. There are plenty of hiking choices and directions are explained well. The maps are useful, but not overly-detailed. For a more serious trip, where one might want to make trail connections and do serious hiking, I would recommend having a detailed trail map along with this, so you have a better overall idea of your options. Still, this is a very good guide, with so many connecting trails and carriage roads in acadia, it would be impossible to create a comprehensive trail guide in a book format.

Very helpful and full descriptions
Used this book to build our hiking adventures in Acadia. It's organized well and has lots of detail about all the hikes, trails and areas. I will use this book again next time we are in Acadia.

Really great guide, used this to hike all of the ...
Really great guide, used this to hike all of the large mountains in Acadia this past summer on our first camping trip to the park. I felt really confident having this in my backpack knowing I could find extensive maps, hints and directions if I needed them. The guide also includes different combinations of hikes to the top of each summit, allowing you to choose however long or challenging of a hike that you want.

Must Have for hiking Acadia
Great book covering many trails in Acadia. Have completed at least a half dozen hikes since purchasing. Very descriptive and informative to the trail and to level of difficulty of the trails.

Great smaller less crowded hike guide
Had some nice of the beaten path hikes. We were able to enjoy some paths by ourselves during a very busy july season in the park.

Met our needs for our trip, but not a great hiking guide overall
We purchased this guide before our family vacation to Maine. It met our needs & helped us to be able to plan a good day hiking itinerary and come up with quick back up plans when we needed to make last minute changes. Since it was our first trip with our 14-month old, it was nice having a lot of short but spectacular hikes to choose from-- longer hikes are hard for us right now. However, as far as hiking guides go, this one isn't amazing. It doesn't include elevation profiles, which has become standard for most guidebooks. It was okay for me because, well, Acadia's mountains aren't that big, so there's never too much of a climb, but inexperienced hikers would probably benefit from this. Also, some of the GPS coordinates for trailheads were considerably off, which was annoying. Lastly, the hike descriptions give a good idea of what you can see on the hike, but the trail instructions themselves are not very detailed. Again, the hikes in the book are short & Acadia is such a well-traversed park that trail finding isn't hard there, so I guess this wasn't a big deal, but most hiking guides I've purchased have contained better, more detailed route instructions.
