Has anyone tried to put a cushion on it? What size?

That's the problem nothing fits We use a cushion a little bigger but looks fine

How difficult is the assembly for a female who has never assembled furniture and is going to try to do this by herself?

It is very easy. The directions are very good. You can do it yourself

How has it been treated to be water resistant?

Sorry, but this question can be answered by manufacturers and specialists. But it is water resistant.

What is the size of the individual slats? I'm purchasing it for In Remembrance and want to put a custom plate on the top back slat.

The bench is 38 inches long; each slat or board on the back is 2 1/4 inches wide. I love the bench for children and smaller adults. An adult who is 6ft tall and 180 lbs or more might not like it and might even break it.
