This was EXACTLY what I was looking for in an Orchid Mix
I was new to Orchids, three years ago, lol. I was killing more than keeping alive. It is a hard left to try to learn to grow Orchids. They are not planted in soil and I was known for my green thumb. There was very little I could kill or not grow, until I got bored one winter and bought an Orchid. OMG The new learning curve, which I am still learning. BUT, this potting mix is what and where I think I need to be. Crossing my fingers that this will help me succeed with my "what are left of my Orchids". Because I took this on as an achievement based "New Hobby". Compared to other Orchid potting mixtures that are simply big chunks of bark, perlite, little sphagnum moss, I just could not get into this growing environment. This mixture is more in line in how I learned to grow plants and flowers. Yes yes yes I understand the difference in Orchids BUT the bagged mixtures were like spreading yard bark. I really like the consistency of this mix. The texture. How it fills the pot and ease of replanting an Orchid into so it actually feels like it is in a growing material. Crossing my fingers on a clearance Orchid that HAD to be repotted. The mixture is not cheap but if it does what am think it will I will be repotting everyone with this. By the way, anyone with Orchids that they don't want or are just giving up entirely, as I was, you can just put on a review for SAVE THE ORCHIDS, my new name is the STO!!!! LOL I will take your dying babies. Seriously, I think this is a great mixture and I will need to be buying more. I WILL UPDATE! I may be crazy. I've been called worse.

Don't waste your time with cheap stuff
If you're trying to plant or revive an orchid, this is the stuff you need! I took a plant that had been neglected for over a year and was almost completely dead. After replanting the little spray that was left with three wilted lip leaves, it is now looking good and sprouting New growth! Couldn't recommend this any more highly!

Size of material can vary from bag to bag
This is my second bag of this orchid bark. It has a much better ratio of larger pieces and small pieces compared to my first bag, which wasnt mostly small bits. It seems they use theor bonsai medium as part of this mix. Not a bad thing per say but bonsai soil is very tiny particles and can fall out of your drain holes easily and, I noticed, holds a lot more water. My orchid roots didn't like that as much. Like I said, my second bag was a better setup. The inconsistency of the size ratio is why I ranked my review as a 4. If you are willing to work with it, like I am, it's a great quality soil for smaller pots and orchids with smaller root sizes. I have even put a little in my house plant potting soil to help with drainage.

My orchid has struggled since repotting with this mix
Quick Take: I repotted my orchid with this mix about six weeks ago, and unfortunately it has struggled since. The soil seems to have a hard time holding moisture, and the leaves don't look as healthy as they did before repotting. My Verdict: 3 stars. I want to be fair because it's certainly possible I did something wrong when I repotted the orchid, so I can't say with confidence that the potting mix itself is the problem. But I can only review my experience, and my orchid has noticeably struggled since I switched it to this mix. The mix was easy enough to use and seemed appropriate for orchids, but after about six weeks I'm not getting the results I was hoping for. I'm going to have to figure out whether the issue is the mix, my watering routine, or something I did during the repotting process.

Working great!
I thought it would be a "finer" grain "soil mix" but it is working just fine. I repotted my orchids with this mix and put them in special orchid pots (so they can breathe and don't sit in water. I also feed them regularly and provide them with bright diffused lighting. I am happy to say that one of them has sprouted new blossoms and both have new leaves. Use the right products and your orchids will love you.
