## Questions & Answers

**Q: I need to plane the top edge of a door that is getting stuck. Don’t want to remove it from the hinges first. Will this be able to handle that task?**
A: I realize this was asked years ago but for those of you that are just now finding this question, don't sand or plane a door to fix it sticking. There's a pretty easy way to bend the hinges into correct position, just takes a little experimenting. There are videos on YouTube.

**Q: How do you adjust and slow the blade? Like the metallic pin that is seen in many Japanese brushes. I dont see a piece for this in the picture.**
A: All of the adjustments are made by loosening the wood wedge, make the blade movement and using a small mallet to tap the wee tight

**Q: What is the size of this plane? It is listed as 40 mm which is 1.57". Is this correct?**
A: Measuring mine: The Blade is 42.5mm at the top (the thick part), 40mm where the chamfer begins, and 33mm at the edge. The plane body is 52mm x 17mm x 150mm.

**Q: How can i sharpen the blade?**
A: If you are not doing a precise job, the new blade has already been good enough. For the beginner of using Japanese's plane, the most challenging task would be taking the blade out. The instruction on the product is correct but you must experience this task by yourself. If you want to sharpen the blade by yourself, you can google "how to sharpen a Japanese planer". There are many examples online.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great first kanna, work out prep affordably
*by B***G on 16 January 2024*

Kanna (Japanese planes) don't come ready to use. You have to "earn" the tool, so to speak. So it was with the one I received, which was ready for tuning. In particular, the blade was not fully seated and needed the blade "bed" to be carefully marked (by installing blade coated with pencil graphite) and scraped for both broad contact and proper blade depth/installation-force balance. YouTube has plenty of good videos on this, look for "prepare kanna" and you'll find them. I also flattened the base (avoid sandpaper) and hollowed the right spots and honed the blade. This is a great tool for the price and a good way to get some practice with kanna preparation and tuning before you start shelling out three-figures for a better one. And you can do some good work with this when you're done, handy on the bench like a block plane is. The blade is so-called "mono-steel", so not laminated, but takes and holds a good edge. Definitely a good buy for me at $12.
