Excellent, realiity-based intro to the DSM
This is an excellent presentation of the reality of the DSM. The author does a good job of describing how thoroughly the DSM lacks any empirical reliability or validity. However, he does describe how, despite its lack of empirical support, it can be a useful tool to help clinicians communicate with each other. I've taught our counseing program's disagnosis a couple of times and found this is an excellent textbook for master's level students.

Great explanations for DSM diagnoses
Great transaction and good condition. This book is an excellent resource, one of those textbooks you would keep on the shelf for reference.

Helpful
Didn't need it a lot but when I did need it it was great.

Terrible book
Disorganized, incomplete, full of derailed thinking. I came back to this book more than a few times hoping to find some specific question answered, ex. Where is code for "no diagnosis"? Although the author has a section entitled "No Mental Disorder", there is no hint of an answer. The author brags that he has taughtDSM for years to which this reader car only say "poor students".

Just okay. Helpful pieces of information throughout, but ...
Just okay.Helpful pieces of information throughout, but the authors biases and very apparent chip on his shoulder make it hard to digest sometimes.

Insightful quick read
Nice discussion of the DSM-5. Paris has been in the business for decades and provides philosophical as well as practical insights to the new manual. Reads quickly.

If we must...
Every psychologist and counselor should read this if we must use the DSM-5. I would prefer the PDM!
