Super livre/ great book

A book to be savoured
In high school I never really liked Hemingway's novels because I could not relate to his topics--"man" things like bullfights and drinking and fishing. Now, as an older adult, I read A Farewell to Arms with eagerness and awe. Eager to turn the next page and awe at Hemingway's use of language. This novel is a good starting point for learning about the Battle of Solferino, which was the beginning of the end of the Habsburger Monarchy. It is also an example of English language at its finest. The author uses a simple vocabulary in a non-simplistic manner. His sentences are not grammatically difficult, but they are often difficult to understand in their subtler meanings. His repetitions and lack of commons means the reader is challenged to think and doesn't get everything dished out on a plate. I recommend this book for historians who want to learn more about Solferino and for literature lovers who savour language.

Perfect edition, bad shipping
Everyman's Library Classics edition It arrived with the paper cover stained, which I could clean almost completely with some alcohol. I cannot rate it less than the best because the edition is flawless, I absolutely love both covers, the most decorated paper one and the dark textile hard cover, with nothing but the title on the side. The introduction is vast and includes a timeline of the social and literary context from Hemingway's life, and I found no errors nor misprints yet, 40 pages to the end.

A Farewell To Arms - The Macmillan Collector's Library Edition
The 1-star review is not for the story (which is one of Hemingway's best) but for the Macmillan Collector's Library edition. I purchased this hardcover edition for my library, but had failed to notice the dimensions. It measures only 15 x 10cm (6 x 4 inches) and as such is smaller than almost all paperback books. It looks more like a pocket bible. As a result the letter type is tiny, almost impossible to read.
