Great book, well worth reading.
This was a truly amazing history lesson into the trails and tribulations Arabia faced. David Nield has to be commended for his diplomacy and military skills that helped keep political stability in the region. For one so young a remarkable feat, indeed. Anyone interested in Arabian history of the 50' and 60's will find this book a fascinating and interesting book.

ONE MAN'S STORY OF THE FOUNDING OF THE U.A.E.......
THE AUTHOR HAS SHOWN NUMEROUS SKILLS IN A LIFE MANY WOULD FIND CHALLENGING, ADVENTUROUS, AND ABOVE ALL, INCREDIBLE. HIS DRIVE & EVENTUAL PLAN TO BECOME AN INFANTRY OFFICER, TOOK THIS MAN ON A COURSE NO ONE COULD HAVE IMAGINED, WITH THE KINGS REGIMENT & THE TRUCIAL OMAN SCOUTS.THE AUTHOR PORTRAYS A LOVE NOT ONLY FOR ARABIA & HIS ARABIAN SOLDIERS, BUT ALSO RESPECT FOR THE RULERS AND THEIR SUBJECTS. HIS APPLICATION TO LEARN THE ARABIC LANGUAGE FLUENTLY SPEAKS FOR ITSELF IN COMMUNICATION WITH THE POPULOUS. NO DOUBT MANY ARE UNFAMILIAR WITH THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES (formally the Trucial Oman States), AND THE POLITICAL HAPPENINGS. THIS WAS AN EXTREMELY INTERESTING HISTORY LESSON FOR ME.I ENJOYED THE RISKS THIS YOUNG OFFICER TOOK IN CREATING SUCH AN INTERESTING LIFE. THE SERIOUS DECISION MAKING INVOLVED, THE GREAT HUMOUR PORTRAYED, THE STORY ITSELF & EASY STORY TELLING STYLE, MADE THIS BOOK A PLEASURE TO READ.OWEN PUIE, AUSTRALIA.
