Play Bigger: How Rebels and Innovators Create New Categories and Dominate Markets

Shallow and unoriginal
Little of this book felt new or original. It was a messy collection of ideas, many of which I'd seen before, and that I found very difficult to read. I hate to sound down on the book, but as I closed in after finishing, I was struggling to think of anything interesting it had taught me.Save your money and your time. There are much better authors on this subject, starting with the classics from Jack Trout and Al Ries.

An excellent must-read book for all business builders
I picked up this book because I wanted to create a business (from scratch) that moved the needle in an industry that hadn’t changed in centuries and dominated by giants too big to compete against. Play Bigger (could also have been entitled ‘Category Kings’) became the ‘play-book’ for designing, trying-out, learning, adapting and executing a business strategy, which enabled us to enter the market as big players (even though we were a bootstrapped start-up). The techniques described beautifully in this book, allowed us to carve out a slice in the market-place and creating a category in which we became ‘kings’ (shocking our competition – thanks to a ‘lightning strike’ or as we called it a ‘kaboom moment’). We’re still in the journey and this book has been the most referenced resource by us as we navigate forwards. If you’re building a business or rejuvenating new life into a stagnant one, then this book comes highly recommended, with its extremely accessible writing style; relatable industry examples; problem-to-solution techniques and coupled with the hard-won experience of the three authors, there’s only one word to describe this book = ‘Brilliant’!

A seminal work
This is one of the most powerful and applicable business books I’ve ever read. It is a playbook for creating and owning your category and the language is refreshing and powerful.I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to build an enduring business.

It's Bloody Amazing!
There is reference to a lightening strike in Play Bigger (read it you want to know what this is!) and the concept, presentation and delivery of the book was like one hitting me.I was recommended this by 2 separate VC firms when going through our Series A raise and thank god. It has helped clarify my vision and delivery.Thank you very much! Also - search for their podcasts, Notion have one on Spotify with Dave, which is just fab.
