The Honest Kitchen Whole Food Clusters Whole Grain Beef, Oat & Turkey Dry Dog Food, 5 lb Bag

I received this last month, and right out of the box the dogs wanted to try some. They loved it from the first bites, and it has helped my very active skinny pup fill out a bit. I do soak it first, because she doesn't always chew her food. I also use it as training treats.

The product actually purchased was the Beef & Oat Recipe. My dog is picky, but loves this food and eats it without hesitation. I buy it because of the high quality and the bite-size is perfect.

My 3 JRTs love it as a snack and as their mid noon meal.

Honest Kitchen has a great reputation for quality products. My dogs gobbled down these clusters for two days and then stopped eating the clusters. It seemed the problem was the size and hardness of the cluster and not the quality or taste. I believe the clusters were too hard and big for them to eat a whole portion. My dogs are 20#. They took the clusters into the other room, one piece at a time, like a treat. Didn't work for a regular meal and went back to regular kibble.

This household is no stranger to Honest Kitchen dog food products as we’ve sampled and purchased them before. We’ve tried many different kinds from the stews to the dehydrated food. Honest Kitchen is one company I know that really works hard to produce the highest quality foods as possible. I do like to check out websites of most products I’m going to possibly feed my animals, something I’d highly recommend. According to Honest Kitchen, “All ingredients are processed in the USA in a human grade food processing facility. They are non-genetically modified and free of any chemicals & preservatives. All meat is hormone and antibiotic free.” Although Storm really isn’t the intended candidate for this food, he was very interested. Nothing new there, but one thing I noticed is that the food is formulated in a cluster-like manner. Instead of kibble, it looks like something I’d find in a granola mix or something I’d find in a cereal. It actually smells great too, quite unlike some dog foods that smell someone off. This smells like something a human would eat instead of a dog. Needless to say, both dogs loved their sample. Little Weezer wouldn’t allow anyone to bother her while chowing down on hers. Storm and little Weezer both enjoy Honest Kitchen, including their stews, pates, and even their dehydrated. I’ve considered creating my own stews or pates if need be by using the dehydrated as a base, but by adding this whole grain it would add some crunch. My dog loves this but it causes a fungus bloom. He got really stinky and his eyes got runny. My best said that oats can cause this. As soon as we changed to another food the fungus bloom stopped. I'm taking within 24 hours he was better.

UPDATE 11/13/21 It's been a couple of years and I'm glad to report that the Honest Kitchen Whole Food Clusters is still an excellent food for my dog. I picked up a bag of the Chicken Recipe Whole Food Clusters and my dog liked it just as much as he liked the beef. The ingredients for the chicken recipe include chicken, potatoes, peas, chicken liver, lentils, carrots, ground flaxseed, eggs, broccoli, pumpkin, apples, coconut, natural chicken flavor, salmon oil, and kale as the first few ingredients. My dog ate this kibble without complaint and again, didn't have any stomach issues afterward. I'm not sure why I stopped feeding this to him, but after seeing him happily crunching through the food, I will probably pick him up a bigger bag since he enjoys it so. The chicken recipe is just as nutritious as the beef recipe, and is something I will buy for my dog again. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Honest Kitchen Whole Food Clusters were very well received by the resident Pampered Papillon. Honest Kitchen is a brand that my dog honestly seems to love - there haven’t been many items from their line that he’s turned down and none of the products have ever given him issues with his tummy or digestive system. The first few ingredients include recognizable ingredients such as beef, oats, barley, beef liver, turkey, eggs, broccoli, pumpkin, apples, natural beef flavor, ground flaxseed, coconut oil, and kale. The remaining ingredients are a mix of vitamins, minerals, and probiotics. It’s a pretty solid ingredient list, and I like how there are no weird meals, flavorings, or byproducts. Each kibble was small enough for my Papillon to eat and apparently tasted great - he enjoyed eating them plain and didn't snub them when offered solo. He also had no issues with gas, digestive issues, or burping afterward. Overall, if you’re looking to add a little crunchy kibble to your dog’s diet, this is a great one to consider.

I ordered this for my friend's three dogs. At first, when I poured out the food I was not impressed because the kibble is pale, light, and airy. I almost thought it was freeze dried but the bag did not say that. However, the dogs love this. They ate it immediately. The food is manufactured in the USA with no ingredients from China. The ingredients are very good and the first several, in order, are beef,barley, oats, turkey, beef liver, eggs, carrots, broccoli, pumpkin, apples,natural beef flavor, ground flaxseed, coconut oil, kale, chia seed, salmonoil, minerals …. etc. GUARANTEED ANALYSIS Crude Protein, min --> 23% Crude Fat, min --> 13.5% Crude Fiber, max --> 5% Moisture, max --> 12% Etc In summary, my friend's dogs found this food very palatable and really enjoyed this. The ingredients seem healthy. I would have preferred a Velcro closure but I like that the bag is resealable like a sandwich bag. The current price of $22.99 for 5 pounds is expensive but typical of high quality dog foods which comes to $4.60 per ounce.
