A: yes charcoal / carbon is "carbonized" in high temperature before putting on the cloth.

**Q: If you hold this up to the light can you see through it?**
A: Yes, but I double mine to added extra filtering

A: USA

**Q: Seller: can I use this on my gas wall heater and my bathroom hot lamp ceiling fan vents? is it fire proof?**
A: I do not know if the filter is Fireproof or not.
However, I would NOT use the filter as you described!!!
