Ernst Haas (Photofile)

Thanks to certain photograph(s) in this book having been previously reproduced in Haas' earlier books-at least one in "The Creation", that I can tell- I can report that the color reproduction quality of "Ernst Haas: Color Correction" is poor.Even shots that I am fairly sure were made on the relatively fade-free Kodachrome are reproduced here with a faded, sapped-out color that degrades the experience of viewing, especially for those newly exposed to Haas' work. I can't say 'Don't buy it', but try to see earlier copies of "The Creation" or "In America" in order to see what the color really looked like. Is it possible that "Color Correction" contains the best possible modern, circa 2010 color reproductions of Haas' work? Yes, but I doubt it.

This is a wonderful book. Beautifully made and printed as befits the photographs. Hass was there first and it is about time he was recognized fully. This book is a start.

I discovered Ernst Haas because Saul Leiter caught my eye and a friend said, "If you like Leiter, you'll love Haas."Yup.Photofile seems to make their books with attention to what matters to a photographer: Reproduction quality is good.Interesting intro/bio by Virginie Chardin.All in all, a good value with just a single annoyance: the book contains pictures that span two pages and the alignment is off on some of these.

Grat bok and very ffordable. It is not a ful size book but rathr alre paperback. It is filled with many of Ernst Haas's best work. I have another book by this same publisher. It's a compilation of Saul Lieter's work and I love it as well.

I love this photographer. This book is too small to do him justice. I obviously did not read the descripition before I ordered it. I would love to have this book in a larger format

Excellent book. If you like Saul Leiter you will love this book.

great eye

Ernst Hass is a increadeable photographer and I really an inspired by his work. I do think that the Photofile seires is a great way to own a small body of any given photographers work. You do have to remenber the fact that all Photofile books are 7 1/2 in by 5 inches. I like this but it is something to be aware of.

Was a Christmas present son love it

Lo compré pensando que sería un libro de fotografía grande. Al menos tamaño carta, me decepcionó que fuera más pequeño, sin embargo la calidad de la encuadernación y de la impresión de las fotografías compensa el tamaño, hasta veo cierta conveniencia en el tamaño para transportarlo. Pero si eres de lo que gustan hojear los grandes libros de pasta dura, es posible que no te agrade esta versión. También el precio es más accesible que la de los libros de pasta dura. Finalmente me convencí de no devolver el libro y disfrutarlo tal como es.

I like the small packaging and the cheap price for such important and underrated photographer as Mr.Haas. This small book is perfect to bring with you the inspirational creations of a well rounded photographer who still modern nowadays. However, I cannot forgive the absence of the Matador picture in this collection, which is Haas' masterpiece and an icon of one of his trademarks: the long exposure on dynamic targets [other pictures in this book cover this topic however].

La pubblicazione di Photophile è un libretto economico di piccole dimensioni (19x12,5x1) con copertina morbida. Sono riprodotte 67 fotografie, sia a pagina singola che doppia, con data e luogo di scatto/titolo e con una qualità di riproduzione più che dignitosa. E' presente una interessante introduzione (in inglese). Unica nota negativa: le fotografie riprodotte in doppia pagina sono penalizzate dal tipo di rilegatura (che non permette di aprire completamente il libretto) e in alcuni casi sono leggermente disallineate.

Ein schönes, kleines Buch mit klasse Fotos. Leider lässt sich das Buch aber nicht gut aufklappen aufgrund der Bindung.
