Should have been the first elliptical I tried
NordicTrack SpaceSaver SE7i Rear Drive Smart Elliptical: $1026.86 at the time of reviewI had to face a hard fact recently. I’m out of shape. So I began a quest to find a fitness machine that was the right fit for my workout needs (specifically a cardio unit that was gentle on the knees). I tried three other ellipticals before settling on the SE7i from Nordictrack. Truth be told, it was the first one I considered, but I was scared away by the price ($1300) on their website as well as the delivery fee (an extra $200). Thankfully, Amazon had my back with a much more reasonable price tag of around $1000 with an in-home delivery fee of $20 bucks. So with a near $500 savings, I got after it.Side note: the shipping package weighs in at over 200lbs. I *strongly* suggest paying the extra $20 for inside the home delivery from Amazon. The guys who brought mine in were super helpful and put it exactly where I wanted it.*What I liked*:This workout machine arrived almost completely constructed. I only had to attach the feet, then put the arm/control stalk upright. All-in-all it took about 15 minutes to be up and running (literally). The other two machines I built before this (a Nautilus E616 and a Bodychamp BRM3671) took about 45 minutes each to put together (the other one I tried was at a friend's house). The portability of this elliptical trainer is pretty good considering its size (and it is HUGE). It’s heavy, but you can lift it from either end and scoot it around on wheels fairly easily after the initial lift. The upright storage mode is a roomsaver. It really does dominate the room it’s in when fully extended. Putting it upright helps free up a ton of floor space and makes the room a lot more navigable. The workout on this thing is great! It is by far the smoothest and most natural leg motion of any of the four I tried. The base resistance is also a little bit higher. This can be a mixed bag, as if you’re not used to an elliptical workout (or just super out of shape like me), it will kick your butt. In that case you have no recourse but to keep working out until your body has adjusted. The controls are simple and easy to use. You can use the iFit service if you like to provide varied and instructor-driven workouts, but I usually game while I workout so I don’t use that service. The padded foot rests are actually nice. I can feel them flex against the pressure changes as I put my weight on different parts of my feet. By far the most comfortable foot rests of the four ellipticals.*What I didn't like*:The biggest problem with this trainer is that there is a soft requirement to use the iFit service. In fact, they want you to activate it using the service before you even try it. This would be a non-starter for me except that simply holding down the bluetooth button for 10 seconds bypasses that. I did this right away and was working out 10 seconds later. The heart rate monitor built into the fixed handlebars is wildly inaccurate. I wore both a fitbit and Apple Watch to test it and they were both consistently within about 3-4 beats of one another (often identical). The monitor on the machine is wacky. It showed an HR of like 56 (mid workout) one second then 130 the next (I was in the mid 140s according to my smart devices). I wouldn’t rely on it personally (but then again, I don’t. I use my Apple Watch to track my workouts).*The Bottom Line:*I was turned off initially by the price and a lot of people complaining about the iFit service requirement but I’m really happy I ended up getting this elliptical. It’s a fantastic workout and when I’m done I can just lift it up to open up the room again. Considering how easy it was to bypass iFit, I won’t count that against it like so many others. Five stars out of five for the first serious fitness machine I’ve ever owned. I would definitely order this again.

No Complaints
No complaints so far. The delivery guys were great. Two guys showed up in an amazon truck who were very nice. We have a walk out basement so they put it on a hand truck and wheeled it around to the back of my house and put it in my basement for me. I told them where to put it, they put it, I said thank you, they said you are welcome. There is not really any assembly. It is all put together and it folds down. So I unfolded it. It comes without the, what I am going to call outriggers, on the front and back. You have to take off the tiny ones used for shipping and bolt on the big wide ones. Pretty easy. Then you have to bolt the hand grips on. Allen wrench and bolts provided so it was easy. Put it in place, plugged it in and it was ready to go. Now I will say this thing is big. It says it weighs over 200lbs and they are not kidding. And it is tall, taller than you would think, but I have it in my basement and it is not really a problem. I read that if you hold down the Bluetooth button for 30 seconds you can bypass the i-whatever thing that cost money and it worked. It started up in what I will call, dumb mode. You have your different programs and such but I never use those. I hopped on and adjusted the resistance to what felt good and did 30 min with no problems. It was relatively quiet. No rattles, no bangs. I could not find one to try out before I bought but I am 5'7'' and my wife is 5'4'' so stride length was not an issue. So far I am pleased and would recommend this product. If it changes I will amend my review.

Other than the pulse monitor its fine
I'm a big guy, 6'0 245, and I got the spacesaver to add some aerobic exercise in the comfort of my own home. I got it about a week ago, no problems with shipping. Here are my impressions:1) ITS BIG. Bigger than it looks in the pictures. It definitely dominates a room when it is open, and closing it is a two person job that still leaves with with a big thing in the room. So it is not going to disappear.2) Its HEAVY. This thing is really solidly built and putting it together is not very complicated, but it is a two person job.I got it up and running and took it for a spin. The 24 built in workouts are pretty inflexible, you can't really program it at all. You can run it manually, I have used 1-4, since they are limited to 30 minutes, and thats all the hamster time I want to put in in the morning. They do a nice job of alternating sweaty resistance with easier striding. If I kept the rate up, I could get into my target heart zone for most of the workout.BUT, the pulse monitor flat out doesn't work. It is erratic and inaccurate. I have an apple watch, so I am using a little watch app called Zone which does the trick. But this pulse monitor is not working. The thing seems pretty damned solid. Not as solid as a gym machine, it does rock back and forth a bit. But keeping in mind how big I am I am satisfied with that.Otherwise, it does what its supposed to do, and I feel confident that I will get a few good years of workouts out of it.

At 30 days from purchase, the device works, but that's about all I can say. I would not re-purchase any Nordic-Track equipment.
I paid a little more to get the NordicTrack brand, expecting that I would receive a high quality product; however, that has not been the case. After purchasing, I have been bombarded with emails suggesting that I purchase a several-hundred-dollar service plan to cover repairs, which has made me feel less confident that I made the right decision when selecting a NordicTrack product. Unfortunately, the quality of the equipment has not helped to ease those concerns at all. The elliptical itself isn't bad, but there are a number of other issues with the product. The elliptical comes with most parts pre-assembled. The quality of the pre-assembly is horrible. When using, there were several parts of the machine that were not moving smoothly, and were jerking, making clanking noises and feeling loose. I had to disassemble and re-assemble many of the pre-assembled parts. Many of the parts were not properly tightened. Once I tightened, the equipment works well, but I have had for about 1 month, and a new part begins clanking and feels loose about once a week. I have no doubt that, if I had not corrected the issue, the equipment would have had a very short life. Also, the description of the device is very misleading. The device is described as having a heart-rate monitor in the handles. Only the inner handles that are stationary have heart rate monitors, not the regular handles that you use for most of your cardio. To get a heart-rate reading, I have to remove my hands from the handles, and place them on the inner handles for about 90 seconds. The reading is grossly inaccurate 90% of the time. Also, the device is described as having Bluetooth capability. The device is Bluetooth capable ONLY for tablet devices and ONLY when using the paid-subscription app iFit. The iFit app ONLY works with the elliptical, and the elliptical ONLY works with the iFit app, which makes the Bluetooth capability pretty much useless. The iFit tracks my cardio on the elliptical, but if I also want to track my fitness while at the gym, running, or doing anything other than the elliptical, it cannot be captured in the app - which then requires that I use 2 apps to track my work-outs; one on the elliptical and one for all other work-outs. To further compound my frustrations, my current heart-rate monitors that I use to work-out do not work with this device. Only the iFit brand devices are able to use the Bluetooth connectivity on the device. I would purchase an iFit device, but it only works on the elliptical and not for my other work-outs; at $500/ea., I need a heart rate monitor that works for all of my work-outs, not a separate $500 monitor for each piece of equipment that I use. Since the iFit app is the only way to receive the full benefit of this device's capabilities, you will want to evaluate the iFit app before purchasing as well. The iFit app is the perfect example of technology solution that achieves great technological feats; however, they were implemented with such poor insight with regard to how their customers use their product, the app is pretty much useless. The cool thing about the app is that you can literally map a run anywhere in the world with google maps access, and train based on the elevation & difficulty of that location. The problem is that you can't create a work-out on your tablet. You can only create a work-out on your computer. So, to use this feature, you literally have to go to a computer and map a run, then open the app on your ipad, and use it. This is inconvenient, but wouldn't be too bad if you could re-use mapped runs, but NOPE, the developers failed to recognize that users might not want to spend the time to log-in online via PC and create a new scheduled work-out for all 7 days of the week, and repeat this exercise weekly. iFit also has a new app, iFit Cardio that works with the device as well. iFit Cardio is just as bad as iFit. iFit Cardio provides a video coach with verbal commands as well as background music. You can adjust the background music provided by iFit to be higher/lower than the verbal coaching, BUT, if you want to listen to your own music while working out, SORRY!!! can't do that! If you use the app, you are required to listen to the accompanying music, like it or not. My advise to anyone considering purchasing an elliptical is, you will be much happier with your purchase if you find quality equipment that provides a user-friendly experience and is truly Bluetooth capable and will work with your smartwatch and other standard heart rate monitors and work-out tracking apps, music players on your phone or tablet, etc. Convenience - or at least - lack of substantial inconvenience required to operate the equipment, will make your life much easier.
