CARET study was ended early due to these findings. Interested consumers can find these studies by searching for "beta carotene and lung cancer" and "retinyl palmitate and lung cancer". It is important to note that while a significant number of the participants who developed lung cancer during the studies with these supplements were smokers, some were non-smokers and still developed lung cancer. Another thing to note is that correlation is not causation, but where such strong correlation exists, it's better to error on the side of caution and not take synthetic beta carotene and retinyl palmitate supplements if one is a smoker or has genetic predisposition to lung cancer. We increased Vitamin C from 100 mg to 500 mg Increased Vitamin E from 15 mg to 268 mg Increased Zinc from 22 mg to 50 mg We also had to remove Vitamin A from the formula because synthetic Vitamin A has been linked to lung cancer in former smokers. I am sure you have never smoked, but many of our other customers are former smokers. In order to keep them safe, we decided to remove Vitamin A and instead have Carrot Powder as a source of natural Beta Carotene, which the body converts to Vitamin A. As a result of this change the cost of our ingredients increased by 10% however, we decided to keep our price to consumers unchanged. We believe the new formula will be even more effective than the old one because it is backed by extensive scientific research. **Q: Why does your formula not match the areds 2 amounts?** A: Some of our ingredients are higher, such as Lutein and Zeaxanthin. Others are lower. We wanted to go beyond the AREDS 2 formula and offer a more complete supplement.
