Esky 802.11n/g/b Wireless WIFI PCI Adapter Card For Desktop with Detachable Antenna

I just got this card yesterday and let me just say that under Ubuntu Linux 11.10 it is amazing I didn't even need the CD to get on the net. I'm a pretty experienced computer user and I know both Linux and Windows 7 pretty well so this was no problem for me. I knew that Linux would probably take it with no problem, but Windows was going to be another story.Let me just say first that when I say "Windows" I mean Windows 7. XP, Vista will obviously need a little more help with this device via windows update to get it working. Now on to the good stuff . I have both Linux and Windows on my PC so when I went out of Linux and went in to Windows of course the card would not work, why? you ask. Two reasons #1 windows is crap and #2 Unless you are working with a wireless enabled laptop Windows is not going to know this card from the outside of your computer case.Now to fix that you ironically need to be connected to the Internet and you need to go to windows update where it "should" tell you that you need an "important" update . That update is what will make this card connect to the Internet. Now when you first connect it will be slow so I suggest going to a site like download.com and finding a free wifi application that will examine and improve your signal. That's what I did and after I installed it the card worked great. Nice stable Internet connection, the end.Now I see a lot of bad reviews for this card, but if you plan on buying it you should know 2 things 1. the software disk that comes with this is pretty much useless, and 2. you will need to be on the Internet already to get it to work under windows. If you don't plan on having #2 and you are not on Linux then don't buy. For windows users this is not going to work right out the box, if you use Linux then you should be okay. I know, so many Internet fixes for windows are ON the Internet itself and not on the operating system, it's ridiculous. But that's the way the OS was built for some reason.Now for people who cant connect this card to your motherboard try taking out your modem (if you have one) to free up a slot, and if that doesn't work then Google your computer to see if this card is supported. Otherwise it should slip right in. Then read what I have above.So that's the end of my review. To sum up windows sucks Linux rocks and if you want this card to work you must be connected to windows update via the Internet to get the update that will make windows recognize this card. And don't rely on the CD I think that the problem is that when confronted with Linux windows pretty much acts like it doesn't exist and this CD has Linux drivers on it. Hence the CD doesn't exist and though it may try windows really doesn't want to read it. So that's my review if you read this much of it then I hoped you learned something. This is a really good deal. Ten bucks is apparently all you need to spend for a decent wireless card.A couple of things to note... Use the included disc and install the driver only. If the disc doesn't work, Google the driver and download it. Make sure you do this before you put the card in or your pc might not boot.I have gotten very respectable speeds and great reliability from this card. Don't hesitate just because it is cheap.

I've got mixed feelings about this card as I keep loosing my network connection, but I don't know if it's this card, my computer, or my network...The card itself, is low profile PCI & I assume could easily fit into a SFF case. It installed easily, and was detected readily by my WIN XP PRO OS. I did install the RALink software driver & am using that exclusively to see if it corrects my connection issue. The software is pretty intuitive and easy enough to use.

Well my title says a lot. For the price this is a 5 star PCI Slot wireless g card for your desktop. It has really good range (even though I have a Hawkins antenna booster on my Fios wireless router/modem)Set up is really easy when you use the supplied disc. I have had this unit for over a year and it has treated me well. Here and there it drops out but it reconnects pretty fast. I wouldn't use this card for hardcore gaming but for web surfing, facebooking and what not it works well for the price. I am sure the are others out there that will work better but this price is really hard to beat.Just a word to the wise. In case you loose your installation disk (which I did and my wife uninstalled the card for some reason I have no clue) here is a simple way to find the drivers for this card.The unit is called RT2561 by Ralink. This isn't in the amazon description. You will want to search on X-Drivers dot com (amazon won't let me post links so you can even google x-drivers and you will find it) Search for RT2561 (which is the chipset on the card) and you will be able to find the drivers and installation EXE for this card. I hope this helps because I it took me forever to find that info and I figured I would save someone some misery.

I ordered this with high hopes of a cheap wireless PCI adapter that was of very good quality (from all these positive reviews), but I was extremely disappointed. This product did come earlier than expected, which just got my hopes up even more. I have amazon prime, and the package was expected to arrive 2 days after shipping, it arrived in 1 day.The wireless PCI card arrived around midday, and i tried to install this device for the next 3 hours to no avail. I called some college friends who are computer experts, and have jobs in such related fields, and at first they just laughed at me for not being able to install something as simple as a wireless PCI adapter. We spent hours trying to figure out the problem, more so because we were doing this over the internet, and they would just take control over my computer wirelessly (i was connected to the internet via one of my old wireless usb adapters). After trying to install this wireless PCI card in 3 other computers we came to the conclusion that the PCI adapter was never functional, and we just wasted an entire evening.The manufacturer made things extremely difficult with a box that gave no model name/number for the PCI adapter. The instructions were bland and omitted some crucial information for things i had issues and questions about. Trying to google and find information on this adapter was borderline impossible, and just extremely difficult.I am just more so angry at the fact they sent me a broken wireless PCI adapter, and i spent an entire evening trying to get it to work. If possible just go the extra mile and purchase a PCI adapter that is a bit more expensive, definitely not worth the trouble.
