Hello, This burner is non-electric, you will need to use a piece of incense charcoal with it. Yes you can,but I would highly recommend butting some foil undercthe burning sage.

This burner is designed to be used to burn incense over charcoal. You might be able to hold the stick near the ash tray, though some ash might fall outside.
