It's compatible with my EM 400 so it should be fine. However, that is not espresso but drip coffee.

Yes, the content of capsules is different, coarse/medium grind (coffee capsules) vs. fine grind (espresso capsules). In addition, there is some instant coffee in coffee capsules.
