I played in a bar band for years and have used folded horn subs and direct radiator subs from JBL. I sold off most of my gear in an effort to simplify and decided to go with powered speakers. I first tried the JBL powered 18 (the $1800 model) and while it had good output, it did not have the articulate/musical sound that the EV ETX 15 had. While the JBL was a quality sub, I thought, for what I was needing this EV was better. I took it inside and placed it between two Klipsch LaScalas and integrated it with them. I was surprised at how good it sounded as a hifi sub. The dsp control gives almost enough tweeking capabilty (wish I had one more para eq) The F3 on this sub sort of disqualifies it as a true audiophile sub and it’s not as precise as a top of the line SVS sealed sub, but for something I can use for live music/dances in a small club and then hook up in the music room it’s remarkable.

Been using two of these for two summers on an outdoor stage that features Bluegrass, Latin, Folk music etc. Audience 400+. Combined with the Ekx 18” subs. The system affords a ton of headroom so we never clip. Very happy with them and a joy to do shows with them.

I have 3 of the 5 EV series speakers in our array of PA systems. I wanted a set of their 'best' for high end shows. This speaker sounds good at lower volumes but shuts down when pushed hard. NO WAY is this thing 2000 watts! It does NOT have a fan so it relies on the woofer to 'move air' but it is not sufficient in an ambient hot location. The speaker also emits an odd odor similar to band aids (as weird as that sounds) when warm. It is still functioning after 1 year - but for the money, I prefer the newer lower end models. I can get a couple of them for the price of one of these. In addition - this is the HEAVIEST powered 10" speaker we've ever owned! It may have been their best - but I think Yorkville or RCF is a better bet at a slightly lower cost and more features. PS - DO not buy the used warehouse deals ones! They've been returned for a reason!
