Excellent choice for those wanting to use the 5 to 5.5" pads on the Rupes LHR 21ES Bigfoot
*** INTRO ***First, just a little background: Rupes has been making high quality polishing machines in Italy now since 1947 but just over the past few years have they begun importing them and gaining a ton of traction here in the U.S., rivaling the other big name polisher company, Flex. Personally, I own machines from both companies and I love them both. Rupes is made in Italy, Flex is made in Germany. It all comes down to feel; specifically what feels comfortable and effective for you while polishing and paint correcting. In my case, I use Flex rotaries and Rupes DA's (Flex PE 14-2 rotary, Rupes LHR 21ES dual-action, and Rupes LHR 75E Mini dual-action). Anyway, this is where the smaller backing plate comes in:*** THE FEEL ***I personally like the feel of the smaller pads when doing my paint correction and polishing with the Rupes LHR-21ES, with the exception of large items like small airplanes and boats where I'll use the largest pads I can get. The 5" backing plate, combined with the "washer modification" which you can Google for if you're not aware of it, is the perfect combination for this polisher, I feel.*** BENEFITS OF USE ***You get not only speed, ease of use, and more force/power, but also the ability to get into smaller areas that a 6" pad might be just a tad too big for. A 1" inch difference may not seem like a big deal, but add in the 21 mm throw the LHR 21ES has and you're talking a pretty big difference.*** BUILD QUALITY ***I've used some really horrible backing plates just to test them out, and some higher quality ones; this backing plate is one of the best constructed backing plates I've used. The build quality is great and what you'd expect from a company like Rupes. I'm not sure if the backing plate is also made in Italy, or if it's made in China or somewhere else as the packaging does not pecify any country of origin.*** TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS ***The backing plate is 125 mm in diameter, uses your standard "hook-and-loop" velcro for pad attachment, and is a harder foam than you may find on other backing plates, but pretty standard for the Rupes machines. It uses the standard M8 thread (5/16"), comes with an extra bolt and washer, and has an 8+8+1 hole pattern.*** VERIFIED COMPATIBILITY ***I have personally tested this pad to work on the following machines:Rupes LHR 15ESRupes LHR 21ESRupes LHR 75E Mini (although I wouldn't recommend it because it's too big)The packaging also claims it is compatible with the following machines:Rupes BR65AERupes BR106AERupes BR109AERupes BR112AERupes ER03TERupes BR05TERupes ER153TERupes ER155TERupes EK150AERupes LR31AERupes AK150ARupes RA150ARupes RH153ARupes RH156ARupes RG159ARupes RH112ARupes TA151ARupes TA531ARupes TA551A*** CONCLUSION ***Overall, this is a nice, solid backing plate. It's on the pricier side, sometimes approaching $50, although you can find it on sale occasionally. Overall, this is a 5-star product and a "must-have" for those with a Rupes LHR 21ES Bigfoot machine.*** If you have any questions, please ask in the comments section and I'll try to get back with you as soon as possible! *** Thanks!
