Perfect travel backpack
I used this backpack for a 7 week trip through Europe and I could not recommend it enough. I was able to pack approximately 12 shirts, 2 pairs of denim shorts, 3 pairs of leggings, 2 sets of pajamas, a pair of sandals, 2 small bags of toiletries and my camera case all inside. The bag stretches plenty so even when it seems like the zipper won’t close it can be squashed down. The pockets on the front are very helpful for chargers and other small items. I used the plastic rain guard for added protection from the weather, but also to keep my bag from being unzipped by others in crowded urban areas. I loved that I could carry it on the plane, and had no trouble fitting it in the overhead compartment on trains (although it needed to be put in the hold for most coach busses). The straps are quite comfortable and adjustable. My only complaint is that there is not much air flow to your back, so you usually end up at your destination a bit sweaty. The backpack itself is a bit bulky but feels very secure and not flimsy at all. Overall, a great backpack!

Very good pack for general travelling esp with laptop, but full price is far too high.
I bought this mainly for work, the other option being Osprey Farpoint 40. The EC pack won out mainly because of the laptop sleeve, which is next to the body here, whereas the Farpoint has it furthest away (no idea how they came by such poor design). It will be fine for general travel and business, should take a decent load. I've seen some reviews that complain about the hip belt but it seems perfect for the job to me, not too thick and easily adjustable. A 40L pack can easily get heavy so to me a decent hip belt is essential. Also has a small pocket on one hip.Plenty of other pockets large and small and 2 large main compartments - opens up well via a sturdy zip. Water bottle holders can be reached while wearing although they aren't on the side. Integral rain cover is also appreciated. Not sure it would be great for trekking, it sits quite close on the back and would get pretty warm and sweaty I think. Also quite a boxy shape which doesn't distribute the weight as might be ideal for a long days hike. But no one pack can do everything and I certainly rate this over the Farpoint and will get good use from it. The main downside is the full price. I got it for £100 which feels right, full price is about £160-170 which is way too much. Shop around for a good price and it is worth it.
