Perfect as a salt cellar!
After searching for salt cellars on Amazon, I landed upon this Le Creuset Stoneware Mini Cocotte. I chose it mainly for its size, but I also wanted a salt cellar that was something other than wood. The size allows me to use my fingers to measure by pinch and holds enough that I don't have to refill it very often. I actually bought four of these of various colors: one for coarse-ground pepper and three for different varieties of finishing salt. The ceramic keeps the sun off the contents (although that may not matter as much with salt or pepper). the lid is easily removed with one hand (of course), and they look good on my spice shelf. I'm glad I made this selection, and I'd recommend them to anyone who is interested in a similar use.
