Aren't these the same bags that are like 80¢ each in the store?

They are $1.79 in store. Shipping comes out to $6.70. Pretty good deal if your taking convineice of coming to your home. Be picking up in store

Would these make good totes for putting clean laundry in to take up the stairs?

Absolutely! I use it for laundry all the time. There is a short handle and a long handle. The short handle allows you to get a better grip, at the same time tightens the bag which good for taking up stairs. It's also really good for groceries, I use it at Costco where they don't give you bags.

Isn't this a set of two? Why did I only receive one bag?

I received one bag for about three and a half bucks. I don't think that is too bad, however, a person told me I could have gotten one free at the store.
