The Price of Peace
The idea of Superman driven to dictatorship and police state enforcer with the help of the likes of Wonder Woman did not appeal to me initially. Equally unappealing was this titles footing for the game Injustice Gods Among Us; I don't game so heavily these days...I'm lucky i find time to sleep. BUT this is awesome. IGN called it a cinematic read and they were right. Tom Taylor's writing takes the story from improbable and unpalatable to believable conflicts and investment in the struggle. Is Superman right or is Batman? Have they both gone to far? In year two it is all out war and there are some terrible losses on both sides. Somehow Taylor spends time on all the different heroes and villains without making the plot too broken up or monotonous. This launched me into picking up titles I never would have before, like Lobo and Birds of Prey. I was also very pleased to see The Question, even if for a brief cameo. Preordering the next volume! I think waiting for this monthly would be torture. This was my first hardcover volume purchased and I think I will try to buy hardcovers from now on. I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Diamond Book Distributors, NetGalley in exchange for nothing more than an honest review. I also purchased it here from Amazon.

A Great Start to Year Two.
For those who don't know Injustice: Gods Amoung Us was a fighting game that pitted the heroes and villains against each other in a world where Superman has lost all reason and has been the worlds dictator, these tie in comics fill in the five year gap between the destruction of Metropolis by Joker and the wider events of the game. So here we are the start of year two, Superman has lost his humanity Green Arrow is dead, killed in a fit of rage by the man of steel and Batman has been crippled at his hands and Superman has raised an army of super soliders to bring 'peace' to the world and with Batman out of action is stands to others to take up the fight against the tyranny of the Justice League and make Superman and the heroes siding with him see sense before it is too late, that is as much of the plot as I will give you. What sets Injustice apart from most other comics at the moment is the brillaint writting of Tom Taylor, he seems to be having so much fun picking the fabric of the DC universe apart and killing off heroes in the most creative and brutal fashion possible, he does though as well as the dark aspects manage to still keep a level of humour involved, the first few pages in a flashback to happier times is a wonderfully funny scene between Black Canary, Green Arrow and Hal Jordon, he also puts in the Commisioner Gordon scene that I have always wanted to see but once again I will let you find that out for youselves. The art is also an improvement over year one, no longer do you have such wild inconsistancies between the look of characters, which was a large problem before it is now a consistantly good standard all the way through. So of you have been loving Injustice so far this is a great continuation, it does spend it's time scene setting as this builds towards what I expect will be an epic fight at the end of year two, but that is never dull, new characters like Jim Gordon and Guy Gardner really add to the story and watching the greatest hero of all slowly losing sight of what it truely meant to be a hero is to me anyway truely interesting, for any who haven't read year one or are in need of a catch-up there is a nice little re-cap at the start to let you know all the important details. If you have played the game you will know where this will all end, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the journey there.
