After removing the inside back panel of the freezer, saw lots of ice on the coils and particularly around the defrost thermostat. Also, service test mode (see youtube) indicated a problem with defrost thermostat and the defrost circuit. The defrost thermostat had gone bad and no longer closed at cold temperatures.
