That's why I bought not just one but four ULANZI VL49 RGB Video Lights. They've become indispensable in my daily routine. The Bright Side These lights are as bright as you'd hope for and even more. Whether I'm shooting a product or setting the mood for a video tutorial, these lights deliver spectacularly. The full range of colors adds that extra pop, elevating the quality of my work effortlessly. Versatility in the Studio One of the best aspects of these lights is their versatility. With the 360° Full Color options and magnetic mount, I can place them just about anywhere. Plus, they have 3 cold shoe mounts, which means I can stack 'em up or connect them to other accessories as needed. A Not-So-Dark Side If I have to point out a downside, it's that the battery charge is somewhat short-lived. That said, it's not a major concern for me. A quick recharge and they're good to go. Besides, the performance more than makes up for it. Go For It! Having used these lights daily for months now, I can safely say they're a solid investment. For what it is, and what it costs, this is a great little light. It is good for general illumination of simple and non-critical webcam or smartphone shots from a few feet away (probably about 4 feet max). It is not a professional studio light, but that should be obvious given it's size and price. It's a utility light. PROS: (1) It appears fairly well built. Exactly what you would expect in this price range. (2) It is very handy to use. (3) The battery appears to last a long time. I don't know this for sure, but judging by the battery level indicator on it things look good so far. For example, I used the fully charged unit for about 30 minutes on 80% output power and the charge indicator still read 100% after that. What I don't know is if you can trust that charge indicator - is it linear and a true representation of battery usage? Unknown at this time given my limited usage. CONS: (1) The magnet is handy for attaching to things, but if you attach it to a slippery surface (no texture) then the light will sometimes start slipping down under it's own weight. I plan to attach a piece of "hockey stick tape" to the back of the unit to provide more friction so it doesn't slip. Most surfaces I have tested its magnetic hold on have been good however, it's just a few where it may slip. (2) The control buttons on the back are very low profile, but they do stick out by about 1/2 millimeter. While this is not much, it is enough so that when you're attaching it to something with its magnet, or adjusting its position, those buttons sometimes get pushed accidentally. So settings can be changed when not intended. (3) The range of light temperatures (2500⁰K to 9000⁰K) and the accuracy of the displayed value of those color temperatures is pretty bad. My light actually ranged from 3400⁰K to 6900⁰K. Which indeed is perfectly fine for 99% of most uses, but it is not anywhere near what the light's documentation claims. If you are planning on matching the color temperature of this light to other lights you may have, you can't trust it's display. You will need to test separately and come up with an adjustment chart. But if you're in the market for lights where you can match color temperatures, you should probably be looking at higher end offerings than this light. It's fine for simple lighting needs but as I said, it's not a professional light. I would recommend this light - for the uses it was designed for. It will not replace a $1000 studio light. But it was never intended to. Here are the target color temps, and the VL49 settings to hit those target temps, for my light: Target 3400K - Set VL49 to 2500K Target 4000K - Set VL49 to 2930K Target 4500K - Set VL49 to 3450K Target 5000K - Set VL49 to 4000K Target 5600K - Set VL49 to 5010K Target 6000K - Set VL49 to 6000K (this is the single accurate setting on the VL49) Target 6500K - Set VL49 to 7770K Target 6900K - Set VL49 to 9000K YMMV, and probably will. Note that I tested the accuracy of color temps using an app on my smartphone. That app, and the quality of the camera on my smartphone, may not be all that accurate themselves. So keep this in mind - I am only demonstrating a relative variation of VL49 color temps as a single point of reference. Any inaccuracies in VL49 color temp were easily overcome (informally) by setting my webcam to "auto white balance" instead of setting it to a specific target color temperature. The results were pleasing, but my specific webcam does have a good "auto white balance" capability.

These lights are compact but mighty! I love that I can change the colors and brightness to set the right mood for different videos. They are incredibly portable and essential for any creator's kit.

This is one of the best purchases I have ever made. It fits right on top of the hood of my camera, but it's useful for other things as well. Anywhere a light is needed! It provides the perfect amount of light for live streaming. No external power source is needed, because it charges up. The charge lasts for a really long time. The light itself has a lot of amazing settings. It fits really nicely in my camera bag. It could also fit nicely in your desk drawer or a purse. It's pretty sturdy, and it can likely survive in a backpack. You can pull this out whenever you need it. Like for a voice call. It's so much nicer than a halo light because like I said, it charges. You can place it anywhere on your desk. On the laptop itself. No cumbersome wires. One can also place it onto a tripod, but it doesn't need one. It stands up fine by itself. I like that it has the bright studio light setting, but two warmer toned white light settings that I can use a well.

This compact RGB rechargeable light works awesome for accent colors in my YouTube video productions. It has a wide variety of applications. Multiple mounting options especially in my travel kit. Pro: Small, Rechargeable, wide range of lighting options, easy to use. Con: extended use drains charge. I highly recommend this inexpensive RGB light, especially for small video productions.

Definitely a small little light but very very bright for its size. I love all the colors and brightness. Also I love that it's a magnet.

Can be used as a back light or main light for shooting videos. Even used for on a building site. Many uses for this little(but powerful) light.

This product is a perfect addition to a basic vlogging or traveling video production kit. Despite its compact size, the battery holds its charge very well, even on full brightness. You are afforded a great deal of control of color and there are a few handy animated light effects built in as well. It comes with one hot shoe mound and three cold shoe mounts as well as a typical 1/4-20 socket so getting attached to your other devicss should be no problem. One tip though: because this device is built at a portable scale, there are only a few buttons which compels me to remind you to keep the little instruction book. The function is reliable, but if you need to remember "long press vs short" in order to get the light to behave a certain way, you will be happy to have occasional refresher material around when you need it.
