Running pfsense as a firewall what type of throughput does this device get?

Unencrypted pfSense can forward at wirespeed, but for an openvpn link, this box struggles to get up to 100mb/s and drops about 30% of packets. I upgraded from pfSense to VyOS, and now easily 200mb/s encrypted openvpn traffic, no packets dropped, and less cpu usage, only about 30%.

Who is the manufacturer of the memory and msata? what are those model numbers?

Memory comes from either Kingston, Samsung, or Crucial. The 120GB mSATA is from BiWin.

I notice there is an open slot next to the msata drive slot. Is this slot compatible with some sort of wifi and bluetooth module?

It is for a WiFi module. Note that it must be the USB communications type of WiFi module such as found on the Protectli website

What's its performance like with ids/ips (surricata for example) enabled?

Runs great. Its running around 28% to 48% of memory with 4GB. CPU runs around 15%.
