It's difficult to pull the string closed totally so while I don't mind a few tea leaves in my tea the coffee grounds are a little more annoying but not terrible. I did brew a fairly decent cup of coffee with only a few floating coffee grounds because I gently pulled the string as tightly closed as I could.
