But cooking in a frying pan even with a splatter screen would always create a mess on my stove top and it would even splatter enough when removing the screen to get on the kitchen floor. My house would smell like bacon for days if I didn't clean the stove top AND mop the floor after cooking.I learned about microwaving bacon from an old boss. I didn't know this was possible. Even still with a large Pyrex dish and paper towels my microwave would smell like bacon, and the hassle of dealing with scalding hot paper towels and pulling out bacon from the cooking dish was a pain. If I cooked a lot of bacon it was more difficult as the grease would build up. If I didn't empty it the bacon would almost get deep fried. It was a pain to empty the hot bacon grease.Got this invention and was super happy! No splattering - period. It cooked more than my Pyrex pan could cook each batch (4, maybe 5 slices in Pyrex dish), plus I didn't have to turn the "rotate" function off of my microwave. I get more consistently cooked bacon than I got in the pan or Pyrex dish. Personally if I want plain bacon I like it semi-crispy. But when mixing in cold pasta dishes and other things I wanted it very crispy and done. After using this 3-4 times I learned (and wrote down) the cooking times for the various "done-ness" for the various kinds of bacon. It's a breeze, and actually cooks the bacon faster than in the paper towel covered Pyrex dish, and a lot quicker than the frying pan. Very much cleaner than both of these cooking methods too.If I had to find a down side - I would say it would be the bacon folds over the holders. If you want a long, crispy piece of bacon it might be hard to get. It cooks "bent". Trying to straighten the bacon out breaks it into 2 pieces fore very crispy bacon. For less crispy bacon you can straighten it out. Not a huge issue for me though considering the ease of cooking/use and lack of cleaning up afterwards. Overall, considering cleaning and cooking everything this definitely takes less time than pan frying bacon or microwaving in a dish.I also have one of those "fancy" grooved microwaveable racks you place in a dish in the microwave. My opinion on those is that they are a joke. This thing cooks more bacon with less hassle and again less cleaning up afterwards. Grooved microwave bacon cooker/drainer disappeared into the trash.Some people complained about it being hard to clean. It's definitely easier than cleaning the Pyrex dish I used before considering trying to dump the oil out. The handle on this makes it easy to dump than hotpads/Pyrex dish. It's not as easy as cleaning the frying pan, but has other benefits. Sometimes I use recipes with bacon grease. I can easily collect some bacon grease with this and store. Just grab the handle with one hand, pour what I want, dump the unwanted grease. When I look at how hard other kitchen appliances are to clean it's not too difficult. It takes about the same amount of time to clean as my Blend-Tec juicer and Breville blender after use.I've only used it 3-4 times so far. No melting or warping like other folks described. This leaves me to believe maybe they cooked way too long. Even still, if I can only get 10-15 uses the price of this thing for the price I'd buy another one. I'll keep using as described. Once it wears out I'll make and edit to this review to let folks know how many uses I got out of it.I like it so much, I'm writing this review as I order it as a Christmas gift for multiple people...Edit: 1-17-14: Purchased for parents and sister over holidays. Per chance some of the meals cooked required bacon. They tried it out and were very pleased about cooking consistency, quick cooking, and easy cleanup.In addition - needed a significant amount of bacon drippings to cook some gumbo after New Years. Had to cook 3 packs of bacon to get what I needed - 6 bacon strips per load. I wondered if it may warp after back to back usage like this and letting the unit collect so much hot oil. Nothing bad happened. Plenty of use now and still no warping/melting or other issues.Someone asked about how difficult it was to clean. Not hard at all - very easy. Nothing bakes on. I don't put mine in the dishwasher. Hand washing takes about one minute - easy to clean all pieces. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Microwave Bacon without the mess. *by J***E on Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2013* This nifty gadget works great and corrals the grease without leaving a pile of greasy paper towels. Although it took a bit of practice, once I got the hang of it, it worked like a dream. Since the handle is attached to the lid, not the container, I would not advise using this with only one of the two lid clips in place. I haven't had any problems with the plastic melting, but I drain the accumulated grease after every batch, and the unit cools down while I'm loading the next batch.It helps to prep a "landing zone" before you cook the first batch, with a heat-resistant mat, a heat-resistant plate, a container for the hot grease and a paper towel-lined serving plate for the cooked bacon.Remove the bacon cooker from the microwave to the heat-resistant mat/trivet (the bottom of the plastic cup heats up as it accumulates hot bacon grease).Unclip the lid and lift the lid with the attached bacon rack from the cup to the heat-resistant plate (you have to set the lid/rack down to disengage the lid from the rack).Drain accumulated grease from the cup. The cup will cool down while you're reloading the rack.Cooking times vary with thickness and type of bacon, but I get crisp results in a 1000 watt microwave by cooking 1 min./slice, checking for doneness, and then adding cooking time in 15 second intervals. I drain freshly cooked bacon on a paper towel-lined plate and I cook only six slices of bacon/batch. I tried draping 2 slices of bacon over each vane - 12 slices/batch - but found I then had to rotate the slices to get even crisping. Doubling up also keeps the unit in the microwave longer and produces double the grease - both of which increase the possibility of melting the plastic.As suggested in GODSHEART's review, I fill the cup with hot soapy water after the last batch, drop in the bacon rack, and let it soak for a few minutes. Then a quick rinse or trip through the dishwasher and it looks like new.I've tried every microwave bacon cooking gadget/process I could find - the rippled trays, V-shaped racks, T-shaped racks and cooking bacon between layers of paper towels (yielding mounds of greasy paper towels and linty bacon). None come close to the Wow in convenience, mess control, and ease of clean-up. I've used my first one for three years now with no problems. Great product. Great price.
