However, it is unnoticeable to others and functions very well. The black color makes it difficult for onlookers to see it attached to the banjo when placed on the top part of the rim near the neck heal. I use this product all the time and it works very well for me on both of my banjos. It is a good value for the money. The screen denotes the string that is to be played and is fairly easy to see. Of course, a good quality of the strings on the banjo must be used, in order for the tuner to function properly. Review: Nice and works as advertised - After reading the reviews I was apprehensive thinking it may not fit. Many say they broke it trying to install. I thought the whole thing went under the brackets for the head. I found it fit perfectly on top of one and under two. There is enough flex for this fit. My brackets are 1.5 inches apart. In the first photo notice the half-circle opening at the bottom of the strap. That goes over one bracket the other two fit under the corresponding brackets. To install slide one side of the strap completely under the front bracket, then press down on the back of the bracket, so it will slide under the third bracket, while sliding the entire piece towards that third bracket. To make this easy to see you can remove the actual tuner from the bracket just slide it forward and it will come off. If you look at the underside of the tuner you will see a large and small hole on the strap. the tuner has a small knob on it. the knop fits into the large hole and slides to the smaller hole to keep it secure. Some have issues with instructions on the tuner's use. I found it very intuitive. once installed turn it on and pluck a string the tuner will respond with a note and some lines on either side of the note. tune to the point that the note you want has a small blue line on either side of the note. Nothing wrong with tuner. But no matter how you adjust it, it will never be on an angle where you can view it. It swivels and tilts but never where you can look at it from a playing position. I wrote Planet Waves (no reply) with a few tweaks of the design it could be great. But unless you can tune your banjo while it’s facing the floor it’s pretty clumsy. **Q: How can you tell when it is in tune from the display I have been putting one blue bar on each side of the middle note is this correct?** A: Yes. Bars to the left, flat. Bars to the right, sharp. Note bracketed (as you are doing) means you’re there. **Q: Can this be laid over the top of a Lyre Harp, maybe held down with thin Velcro straps, to tune across the scales?** A: My best guess is it could work in that application. Because of the way these are designed to simply slide under the brackets on a banjo it is only very lightly in contact with the instrument but I find it works well. What I don't know is the range of notes on a Lyre Harp. Some of these sorts of tuners have limited sensitivity ranges. This one works great on my banjos in their various common tunings but I don't know how well it might work on an instrument with a much wider range of frequencies. You might want to ask the manufacturer about that. **Q: Can this tuner be used quietly while actors are doing dialogue? I'm in a musical and must correct tuning between songs without the audience hearing it** A: It can in some settings. If your volume is turned off by the sound tech and you are far enough away from actors with a mic open. This tuner operates on vibrations and is placed between the rods on your instruments rim. So you don’t need to pluck loudly for it to work.
