I had it set for a return after thoroughly going through reviews. But as I sat at my table drinking coffee I thought why not at least try it. So I did. I live it. However, if you are opposed to rough texture then you shouldn’t buy it. Know what you are purchasing. As I read through the reviews it struck me that most who purchased it probably weren’t aware the texture is rough nit cold press or hot press. I think it behaves exactly as it should. The pigments don’t go flat as some have said. Too much water and not enough pigment is going to be an issue for this paper. Dry brushing no problem. Heavier pigment per water ratio, great. I am really glad I decided to try it and cancel my return. I’m also going to say it is not bright white if you are expecting bright white. I’d not use the tool provided to remove the paper. I’ve not seen that issue. I’d use a thin metal letter opener to sidestep the removal issue from the block and you should not get any tears. Make sure it’s good and dry before removing as per most blocks. It’s cheaper than arches but I’d not say it’s a replacement for but an addition to adventurous art.

This is great watercolor paper! I have tried a wide variety of brands. It is very easy to work with. The paint lifts easily, it withstands a little duress, and so far it hasn’t buckled. It’s a good price. I like the tooth. The paper separates easily and doesn’t bleed under the tape I use.

Regarding all the complaints about paper tears, I have to believe that is user error. If you use the tool that comes with it or a palette knife and use it at an angle, the paper can be removed cleanly. The glue does seem a bit stubborn, but I have no trouble removing the sheets as long as I come at it with an angle and am not overly aggressive. The paper itself is awesome. Scrubbing and lifting has little impact on this paper. Wet on wet is wonderful because the paper stays moist for considerable time. The texture is a bit on the rough side for cold press, but I like this. Almost no buckling on the block. This paper feels much more 'artist grade' than other 100% cotton/artist papers I've tried. Take your time removing sheets from the block and you'll love this stuff.

I was looking for a 100% cotton block that didn't require the sale of my organs to afford and the Baohong block is one of those. Pros: The cold press finish is more like rough finish if compared to other brands, but not a deal breaker. The paper takes water well and handles scrubbing, lifting and reworking better than any other paper I have used. Pigments dry a little lighter and slightly less vibrant than Arches or Fluid 100 but all of that can be compensated for by its great glazing and reworking capability. It is easy to remove from the block (I use a palette knife) and remains flat if you let it dry before removing. Unsure of the archival quality - check back in 50 years or so. Cons: The size stated is inaccurate - the actual size is 6x9 inches. Again not a deal breaker. It has become one of my go-to papers, and I will be purchasing again.

Really nice paper. No warping since its on block. Stands up to wet washes and a light scrubbing. Dries flat. 140 lb so its the most versatile. Nice thick fell to it.

I really like this watercolor paper and use this smaller size often. It has more of a rough texture, but good quality.

This paper has a lot of texture on the top side of the paper block. If you pull the paper off, the back side is smoother. I like that I have options. It's a nice paper for the price. The color is nice, the paper is heavy and hold water well.

I just purchased my second artists cold press Baohong block. It isn't for fine detail and it's rougher than most other cold press watercolor papers. With that said, I love how my Daniel Smith watercolors work on this paper. I love the weight of the paper, too. The hot press isn't as heavy and is thin as well as Arches hot press. I wanted a paper for fine details of a ship. It is very difficult to draw on this paper. I have so many other ideas for the texture. If you use a nail file for fingernails on this paper and gently place the file under the paper a ways, you shouldn't tear it. The key is the file needs to be under the paper more than just near the edges. I found the one that comes with the paper tears more. After trying to remove two papers, I figured it out. My paper tore a miniscule on those first two papers. Enjoy!

I first started buying Baohong watercolour paper long before it became so popular . . . back in the days when it was the best quality for the best price. I prefer watercolour blocks because I can use as much water as I want and the paper stays put. They used to include a small green plastic 'leaf' to slide in the opening and then along the edges to remove it from the block after the painting was dry. I have several on hand so I don't miss them not being included any more. Since I often work on 2 or 3 paintings at a time, I am glad I bought several of these blocks in various sizes when they were still a reasonable price. The past year or so I have been on a quest to find other watercolour paper blocks that will work for me without breaking my bank account. :)

Great paper that holds up well. Tried this based on recommendations given here and was not disappointed. Have already ordered second block and is now my go to paper

100 percent cotton, very reasonable price! Rougher texture than most watercolor paper, doesn't bother me but if you use hot press or regular cold press another brand, you might be surprised. Holds a wet wash very well with no blooms or backruns the only thing is it's very thirsty paper so working very wet is good. It's a glued block but they provide a plastic tool to seperate the paper and it works well. Overall very pleased.
