Smiling Again
I am thrilled with this kit!! I have very crooked teeth in the front and accumulate plaque easily since it is hard for a toothbrush to fit in to cover all the surfaces of those teeth. I also contracted Lyme/Bartonella and the Bartonella bacteria rapidly started causing dental problems too. In spite of years of brushing and flossing, I started getting cavities and ugly build-ups. It was embarrassing and combined with the hostile, accusatory dentists here that acted like I just wasn't brushing etc, I started avoiding the dentist. Plus I couldn't afford to be going for multiple cleanings and the yearly cleanings covered by insurance weren't enough. It was very frustrating being left with the deteriorating teeth and the feeling that no matter what I did, it wouldn't help. So, this kit has all the right sizes and tip angles to access all sides of probably anyone's teeth, and the mirror helps one "see" what they may miss. The tips are very sharp and remove plaque quickly! Be careful! It would be easy to damage fillings so don't get too aggressive with the pick tools! Also, one has to pay attention to the tip on the opposite end that you're not using; the tools are long enough to come close to your eyes or scratch your face if you're working at an extreme angle. I think I will keep the tip guard on the opposite tips I don't use as much while I'm using the tools. These are very good quality tools; I love the double grips and the balanced 'weight' of the tools.I wish there was a narrower plaque scrapper instead of the tweezers, since this one is too wide for my worst teeth, but the other tools work (though I know a dentist would advise against using pick tools on the flat surfaces). I have no clue what the tweezers are for in a dental kit, but they are coming in handy for other purposes. There's a learning curve with the mirror, since one views things in reverse. But these are minor issues that may only be my problem.I was so excited about how quickly I was able to clean up my teeth, and how they had that wonderful clean feeling (and appearance). I called everyone I knew and told them how great this kit is! I was able to clear all the nasty brown build-up on the inside of my crooked teeth better then the dentist did, and now when I go in for check-ups and cleanings - 1) I won't have to listen to negative lectures and - 2) I won't have to suffer in the chair for as long a time. (Lyme patients typically have very stiff necks, lots of pain, and increased anxiety) so I am so happy to be able to properly, leisurely clean my teeth again. Yippee!!! I can smile again too!

I Am a Dental Hygienist
Let me start by saying that I am a Registered Dental Hygienist (I clean teeth for a living), so I know what I'm talking about. I bought this kit so that I would be able to clean my dog's teeth at home without having to take them to the vet (expensive!) and put them through a procedure which requires general anesthetic. For this purpose, the kit works well! The instruments remove plaque and calculus adequately.I feel like I need to say that buying this kit should NOT be a replacement for routine dental care. 99.99999% of people DO NOT know how to use these tools appropriately. You can seriously damage your teeth or gums! This kit does NOT help if you are a periodontal patient because you will not be able to place the instruments far enough into the pockets to clean them out. This kit will not help if you have significant amounts of subgingival calculus (tartar under the gum line). If you fit into these categories, you NEED to be seen by a professional dental hygienist. As a professional RDH myself, the ONLY reason I would recommend using this kit on yourself is if you build fast calculus on the backs (tongue side) of your front lower teeth. You can face the bathroom mirror and look down to gain better visibility on the area. The included dental mirror and a bright light may also help. Place the sickle scaler right below the yellowish deposit and pull upward gently. Do not scratch your enamel or gums! This does not replace routine professional dental care!!As for the instruments themselves, they are decent quality. Made with stainless steel, I believe. They are not incredibly sharp, and I have not yet tried to sharpen them. The kit comes with a dental mirror, cotton pliers, dual ended shepherd's hook and anterior explorer, 6/7 sickle, and some other thing I don't recognize. Please use caution with these. I would hate for someone to hurt themselves or damage their teeth with these.

and and very useful in the removal of particles between teeth
I am not a professional in the dental industry, but I am observant as to the tools they use for routine cleanings and such. It is from that perspective that I write a positive review of this set of dental instruments. They are, as claimed, made of stainless steel as far as the eye can tell. And they are well packaged so that they travel well during shipping. The ones I received are exactly as pictured and came in without any accidental bends or manufacturing defects. They are very pointy as well as sharp, which is how they are supposed to be, and and very useful in the removal of particles between teeth. I found the most useful tools to be the ones pictured on the sides of the mirror (in the advertisement picture), which are basically the two sharpest, probing tools.I would use them sparingly and with extreme care as they are not toys, and they are obviously not recommended to anyone who will not use them irresponsibly. These can not only probe, but they can scratch or damage the gums if used incorrectly. The chisel tool is also very good at removing surface elements that get caught on teeth. But again, I would use with extreme care as pulling too hard with these tools could potentially dislodge far more than food. ;)The instruments arrived very clean, but I still washed mine with dish soap and ran them through boiling water and allowed them to cool off before putting them into my mouth.I would buy them again, however, I wish they pincer tool was not included as I do not intend to extract any teeth, or anything large enough that my toothbrush and floss would not be able to take care of. Furthermore, the pincer I do not find sharp enough to use as tweezers or for other uses.I hope this helps.
