NedFoss Electronic Air Horn and Bear Bells for Hiking Safety Gear Women Men

Very loud. The horn is smaller than expected, but that's not a bad thing if you want to carry it with you. I have not had a chance to use it, so not sure how well it works.

I am traveling to Northern Idaho to MTB and decided I need to bring something in case I run across bears. I sure hope I don’t need this, but it helps me feel more secure! Easy to use and loud noise level. Lightweight so it will go in my backpack front pocket.

We've recently moved to the mountains and I walk my dog a lot, sondtimes when it's dark in the a.m. and p.m. My neighbors said to get a bell and/or whistle because "bears don't like to be surprised". I don't want you be surprised by a bear...so I've armed myself with this purchase. I must say the quality of the bell and whistle is excellent. The pieces are weighty ( not heavy) and the finish looks expensive. They come with a convenient caribiner- like ring to hook them into a belt loop or fanny pack. The bell sound is very Zen,cand the even whistle is a nice sound ...not ear- splitting. I have only carried it for a few nights so I can't really say yet if it works...but as long as I don't see bears I'll be glad to give the credit to this duo. Nice purchase.

5 stars for very nice bells, 2 stars for backpacker usage. Bells are too heavy for backpacking, but great for short hikes, bikes, base camp & very nice decorations. These bells have a nice clear/crisp sound, and a nice hefty weight (2 1/2 ounces) for their size (not exactly backpacker friendly). They are beautiful, and I will be getting more to make into a Christmas decoration. however, the whistles that came with my bells are more like a dog whistle. Not much noise for the human ear to hear, though so probably the same effect for a bear as a dog perhaps? I definitely didn't use it for our backpacking trip.

So yes I run in the forest and yes I have encountered a few bears and coyotes and rabid dogs. So the bell works, I have tried it on bears. Running I saw a bear up the road as I got closer the bell was louder the bear took off. On another day I saw a coyote and he took off also. I was it on my vest or hanging from my shirt on my low back. The quality is great so far no rusting no problem. It is light enough you don't notice the weight. It is with the money? You betcha!!!

The bear bell was loud and clear and worth it. However, I wasnt happy with the whistle. The ring for the whistle wasnt sturdy, and I didnt even realize when it fell during the hike.

The bells easily clipped onto my pack and gave me a sense of security while walking through bear country. I didn’t see any bears - because there weren’t any or because the bell worked? We shall never know…

These bells and other noisemakers do work to alert bears that you are in the area. These do not usually scare an inquisitive bear away.

Nice, small and very Loud

La clochette a un beau son très agréable et assez fort pour avertir un ours sauf lorsque nous sommes près d'une rivière dont le courant est bruyant. C'est là que le sifflet devient intéressant. Le sifflet est assez impressionnant et il est très léger. Le son est puissant et strident ... Je suis très content de cet achat.

Bell and key ring - carabiner are solidly made. Bell is loud, and has a clear tone. The bonus whistle is lightweight pot metal, and has a lightweight split ring - but lightweight is good for hiking. Whistle is loud.

I like this item well enough that, when the split key ring I used broke and I lost the bell while hiking, I purchased another one. Pros: - bell is a perfect size for a medium-large dog - bell sounds nice (not annoying) -- it "tinkles" instead of "jingles" - bell is decently loud - bell looks good (we get lots of compliments on the trails) - whistle is convenient and sounds loudly Cons: - bell doesn't ring all the time due to restrictive pendulum - bell isn't brass or bronze -- coating wore off in places due to abrasion (but no rust) - lanyard is fragile and therefore useless (I uses a carabiner to attach to my dog's collar) - chain on whistle is fragile (but you can run a split key ring through the whistle) - a bit expensive for what it is
