Somewhat redundant
If you've had a good teacher all year, as was the case for me, much of the information in the book is redundant. There aren't any hidden secrets or strategies for this exam really; you read the passages, then answer the following questions, and for the essays your plan your arguments, then write. I ended up skipping straight to the practice exams after reading several pages on redundant information. If you've had a good teacher, you're better off without this book, but if you truly feel lost, this book may help. Since I had a good teacher, I found that looking at sample multiple choice questions and sample essay responses helped me get a good grasp on the test, as I had already mastered the content.

Great Resource
It has been a great resource for my daughter studying for various standardized tests. It covers quite a range of information.

Helpful as a guide, can't carry you to a 5
This book was useful as a terminology reference and getting to know the exam. Personally, I think to do well in the AP Lang and Comp test, you have to have good reading comprehension and be a bit well read (or have written papers on a few famous books). This is true for both English AP exams. Thus, test prep books shouldn't be what you spend your last min cram sessions on (except maybe the test practice).
