Best boots I've owned but not waterproof
I've owned these for 5 months. Not waterproof. Water soaks right through top layer when walking through grass with dew. That's the only downside. Very durable. I am an underground utilities locator and picked the tan/ orange color so the orange overspray from my paint stick doesn't show up as much as it would in other colors. I walk through mud and work in the rain but the boots don't even look that dirty. Im 5'8" and 155 pounds. I walk/squat alot. 70 hours per week and these boots have yet to show any wear at all. I typically go through a pair in 1 month. With these, nothing is busting loose or freying. I keep them tied and use a shoe horn to slip them on. I had a leg/foot injury where a 500 pound roll of paper fell in my leg in 2010 and had a 3 year recovery. That being said my feet are sensitive. These are the most comfortable boots I've owned in 24 years of work. I can walk carrying 50+ pounds of equipment on unlevel ground/ditches/brush/woods for 10 miles at a time and my feet are still good to go. They were stiff for 2 days then loosened up and i couldn't be happier. I live in South Carolina where it's 100% humidity/temperatures reaching over 100° and my feet get a little hot in these but nothing like other boots where my socks would be soaked.

Review after one year of use
I got my second pair of these boots around 12 months ago (see below about first pair). I was happy with them except for the eyelets destroying the laces as others have reported. To solve that issue I bought a pair of Ironlace Unbreakable Round Bootlaces. Once I replaced the provided laces with the new laces I've had no issues. A bit annoying I had to replace the laces but given the reasonable price of the boots, I'm okay with doing it.I've used these boots to walk/hike 3 to 6 miles almost every day. As this point the soles are worn down and I'll need to replace the boots soon. I've been quite satisfied with them, working well as comfortable hiking boots. Given the mileage I've put on the boots getting a year of them is pretty good. Now about the first pair I got. Within a couple of months the top eyelet on the right boot completely pulled out of the boot rendering it useless. I wrote RockRooster and they replaced the boots at no charge. I didn't even have to send back the old ones. So, five stars for customer service.

Good boots
Bought the 8” version for my husband. He typically wears size 13 but once he got them they seemed a bit tight in the toes so we got the 14 and they seemed to fit better. He wears different insoles for all his foot wear but he did say that the insoles that came with the boots seemed better than average. There’s also a red cushion in the heel underneath the insole which is a first but very welcomed addition. So far he’s only been really wearing them for about a week but he really likes them. As for waterproof? Not sure yet but I’m sure he’ll update this review in time. He works as a police officer and usually wears Salomon but he wanted something that would be offer more supports. He said they are slightly bulky compared to some of his other “tactical” boots but they are definitely comfortable and supportive which is exactly what he was looking for.As some reviews mention the lacing system; it’s not the best and it could be improved but he hasn’t noticed that big of an issue. He says they take a little longer to lace up but once you have them laced up they stay tight and there nice and comfy. Might look into the boot lock laces I’ve seen on here but for now they work. They do resemble Lowa boots specifically the zephyr. He really wanted those but gosh there 3x the price of these. If these boots end up lasting a year than I’ll say there fine boots.Final takeaway: Husband loves the look, support, and comfort of the boots. Lacing system could be better but not at all a deal breaker.

Great work boots, but the eyelet broke after 2 months of wear.
------- REVIEW UPDATE-------Rockrooster's customer service and warranty system is fantastic. I contacted them about the damaged boot, and they had a replacement to me within the week.--------This was a great fitting boot. A little tight at first, but after a few days they broke in nicely. I work them almost every day through the middle of January when the laces ripped the eyelet while I was tying them up. They are completely waterproof up the ankle, I tested that by accident one day at work. I was really disappointed when they broke because I enjoyed wearing them so much.

Almost great, falls just short
I came to this boot for its obvious attempt to be like the Lowa Zephyr GTX. My hopes were high but my expectations low. I must say at first blush these “RockRooster’s” looked good and had me optimistic but came up short. The shortcomings are, as so often is the case, in the small details. Hard as you’ll try the lacing system won’t allow to fully tighten the boot around the ankle. Weird and hard to explain, the lacing system just isn’t engineered properly and always leaves the boot loose. As a contributory consequence the boot feels less supportive and planted than the Lowa and the Rooster has more squishy foam which also adds to the softer less supportive feel. The lacing system also takes extra time when donning than the Lowa. Now, the Roosters have premium materials, have been durable, look VERY much like the Lowa’s, and really look and act like a comfy high quality boot. The real advantage is price, costing a third of the Lowa. I’m a professional user of 25 years and have chosen the Lowa Zephyr as my best boot ever for the part 6-7 years. So, in summation, definitely worth the money but don’t think the Roosters are up to the task of replacing the Lowa until the engineers really get serious about the details. They are light, waterproof, comfortable, and durable in the end. I will still rotate them in to my patrol shifts now but know where my money goes with the original. Copying really is the highest form of flattery.
