X-Sense SC03 10-Year Battery (Not Hardwired) Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector Alarm, Dual Sensor Smoke CO Alarm Complies with UL 217 & UL 2034 Standards, Pack of 3

My sister and I purchased a house for my mom that had very antique looking smoke detectors so I decided to purchase these for her new house. The ones the house came with were no longer up to code and we just decided to replace them with battery powered smoke detectors. They're very easy to install and come with all the hardware and items needed for install. My mom hasn't complained so I can only guess they're working as expected.

I have bought these as gifts several times for clients that bought houses that didn't have carbon monoxide detectors. I have installed these in my own home with double sided type tape.

Hung the combination smoke detector / carbon monoxide detector two weeks ago. It was easy to hand and the two things I liked most were the combination of the two detectors and the inclusion of the battery (I didn't have to worry about finding the right battery or the right number of batteries). Just a note: This device is in the basement and I hung the directions and the 'warning' information in a baggie on the wall next to the device. It's easy to keep track of and I don't have to worry about important information going missing.

Easy to install.

I just installed a solar power system on my roof. That meant I had to get city permits. That triggers the city inspectors to enter your home and check out the smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors. Though I already had quality smoke detectors in every room and hallway...and a CO detector in my room. As far as I knew, I met code requirements. Well, the code had changed. The inspector did a great job of educating me. I found this five-pack of combination CO/Smoke detectors on Amazon and bought it. They're easy to mount, though you need a drill with a 6mm/.25 inch drill bit (and a vacuum cleaner to clean up), they are in storage mode until you twist them into the ring mount. And Lithium Ion batteries do well in maintaining their charge while in storage. But once you twist them into the ring mount they automatically power up for their approx. 10-yr life. I left up one of my old dual sensor smoke detectors (active fire and smoldering fire) and my old CO detector, I added more detectors. I feel more safe and they were easy to install. And 10 year battery life. Pretty cool. The only reason I didn't give five-stars is that there are two separate types of smoke detectors and I think this only has one. I'd prefer a detector with both types of smoke detectors and a CO detector included.

I was looking for a combo unit. This was easy to set up. If it lasts for 10 years, it will be perfect.

It was confusing about interconnected. I first ordered a 3 pack that was not by mistake. Amazon took care of the switch no problem.

I'm sure the X-Sense SC03 10-Year Battery Smoke Carbon Monoxide Detector Alarm is great. Gets good write-ups and looks solid; I'm looking forward to about 10 years use. What was delivered to me was exactly as described on Amazon. However, the proprietary mount ring does not allow the pre-drilled holes to line up with a common rectangle, square or round electrical back box, and the provided wall mount inserts and screws don't fit beside the back box. So, as you can see in my photos, I took down the old Kiddie alarm (and took down their ring that installed fine 7 years ago). A common 4" round back box was present (in all 5 of my locations). I had to drill and countersink new holes in the SC03 mounting ring. Then the ring would stay in place and the alarm mount and activate properly. Looks fine, is operational, but the user needs to be a bit handy to make this happen.

This product is crap. My husband installed it close to our other old smoke detector and after 2 days the thing started to beep every 60 seconds without a flashing light. I thought maybe it's because I was painting the walls in the room maybe it just set it off. The beeping eventually stopped the next day, but would sometimes beep randomly. We changed the battery and it seemed to not work. Last night I made burgers and usually my old smoke detector goes off when I do because of the smoke and theres not alot of circulation in the kitchen (just a window). Well, my old smoke detector went off and the new one didn't. Ya not good. Garbage product!

Product description says it comes with 5 units but only 1 smoke detector was sent. Item probably works, but is 5x more money than planned as a result of the inacurate quantity description.

Very simple setup. Switch it on, put it in place do nothing for 10 years and have protection from carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.
